Fiction - The Lone Guardian

Born to kill.

I just killed a human being. How could I murder a living person in cold blood? It must be in my mafia DNA. I was numb to the core and had no sense of where I was going. I just knew I had to keep walking to get away from the crime scene, a warehouse where the murder had occurred. I had to get away from the man I just killed and from all that blood spilling out of his guts. I had shot him several times, as witnessed by many of my father’s men, and left his dead body to rot on the warehouse floor. My feet continued to carry me away from the scene of violence and murder. The voice in my head urged me to kill. Kill him, kill him, kill him, said my inner voice, and I did.

Suddenly, a childish scream broke my daze. The night was dark. The alleyway was barely visible from the small amount of light shone from the main street lamps. The scene in front of me was obscene and gut-wrenching. A large man was trying to shove his hand down a young girl’s pants while his other hand was inside her shirt pawing at her breast. The girl was pinned to the brick wall of an old multi-story building. She looked terrified beyond words. She continued to struggle against the guy’s fat body, but it seemed futile against his size. She kept on begging and begging until she had no more breath, and simply surrendered. The scumbag continued to laugh and taunt her while molesting her.

“Let her go now, or you will die.” I took him by surprise. He suddenly halted with fury written all over his face. He was more than pissed by the disturbance caused by me, a mere slip of a girl. He was a despicable and atrocious rat’s ass.

“Let see who we have here. Another slut for fun. C’mere ta Luis, baby. Let Luis give you some pleasure. Ya know ya want it, little girl. C’mere and join us?” He guffawed. “Ya want some fucking too, eh? Ya’re an eye candy girl. Just look at ya, c’mere to papa Luis,” he leered.

“You either let her go now or eat a bullet, the choice is yours, scumbag.” I aimed my gun at him.
“What, are ya going ta make me, bitch?”

“You want to bet on it. It makes no difference to me if I kill another one tonight, just more blood on my hands. The world would thank me for getting rid of you, vermin. Maybe, and just maybe, I will go to heaven. So, try me, you scum.” I gave him a sinister smile.

He was stunned for a second but quickly recovered, and his facial expression showed evil intent. He grabbed the girl by her hair, pulled her towards him and brandished a knife from his jacket. “I will slit her throat. Try me, bitch!”

“I will count to five. You either let her go or you will die. I don’t care. I will let the dogs eat your body. You, stupid pig. Either way, she’s going to die in your hands even if I give up my gun. But know this, if she dies you will die with her. One …” My resolve to save myself and the girl hardened. Otherwise, we would both die tonight. A useless death in an unknown, quiet alleyway with nobody to witness this heinous crime. “Two … Three …”

“Ya crazy bitch. I’m going ta kill this tiny one first, then I’ll show ya pain and fucking. After I’m done with ya, I will sell ya ta a whorehouse along with this tiny bit of fluff for some good cash. Ya hear me, bitch?”

“Four …”

Did Sapphire pull the trigger? Or, did she conquer the demon within, to value life more than death?
