The Best Audio Books, Ever.

in #fiction8 years ago (edited)

This is the Aubrey, Machurin series by, Patrick O'Brian
Narrated by Simon Vance. Accept no substitutes.

I'm not a big fan of audiobooks, usually.
I tend to enjoy my internal narrator far more, and
I think I get more out of the material actively reading it,
rather than passively listening.

There is, as usual, an exception.
The one audiobook series that I have found that I love,
this is The Aubrey, Machurin series by, Patrick O'Brian.
This series takes place at the end of the 1700's into the 1800's.
It is centered on a ship's captain in the British navy, and his friend,
who is a surgeon, and a spy for the crown.
If you are interested, make sure and get the version with Simon Vance narrating.
Simon Vance is a voice actor and has narrated many books.
If you want a properly narrated book, this is your man.
This is the most fantastic series I have encountered outside of sci-fi.
There are 21 books. It is the most fun thing ever.
I have found this on amazon and ebay.
I have also seen this in public libraries.

I haven't found any that I can link to.

Pricey. Some of the libraries seem to have them. There is always the intra-library exchange program. If you torrent you may find it. I have seen it around.

xD
I was hoping for a free downloadable version. lol

Great tip! Thank you! I, actually, am a direct decedent of one of the "O'Brian brothers, who started the "American Navy" by raiding a few British Naval vessels, after their dad was pissed that the Crown was planning to "requisition" all their lumber from their lumber mill, for housing occupying British Soldiers. As always, I hold your posts in high regard. One thing I am planning to do is sweep through my "Followers" list and check out their posts. If I see something new I had not seen yet, and I like it, I will vote it up, AND, resteem it! Could you help a brotha' out, since I am really just starting? Could you visit my blog and do the same? Especially, the resteem part? I would greatly appreciate it. ~Cheers~

Also, since I am just really starting, and we all need a helping hand, I am going to start, daily, looking at the Blogs of my Followers, finding things I like that are over one day old and less than a month old, then upvoting them and resteeming them. I would ask you to do the same for me. This way, we all get continual exposure. That is what we all need, right? I am staring today. I will look at your Blog and resteem and upvote the ones I like.

this is a social networking media site after all. I try to keep track of things on my feed. I'm afraid I'm not very good at keeping up with it yet. I do try to keep up with things before they hit the 1 month barrier. I'm still getting the hang of resteeming. I am following about 150 people and don't know how full I can make my feed with resteem and still be me. I am happy to help, provided I can be effective in doing so. This is the first of these sites that I have used, except for the reddit account I set up and used for 15 minutes to get on steemit. Even though you are new to steemit, you probably know an infinitely greater amount about this paradigm than I. Mostly the things I want to share are my original creations, the stories, the tolerable poetry, a comedy piece or two. These don't always draw attention, so I review oddball media I've aggregated over my life. I'm trying to come up with some novel uses for the platform. I think once I understand more it will be easier. Time is coming for me. If I can't get something going here soon, I'll have to go and get some honest work. I'm not looking for a killing, but a living, more than my paltry 2 dollars a day so far.

I understand. I am mostly new to these things as well. I will just look at my "Followers" section and resteem the ones I know want to do this. The most I have earned was from someone resteeming it. That was yesterday's post. ..just saying. Let me know if you decide to do this. I already spun one back up for you.
