Operation Bird Catcher p9
The last thing the four did before leaving the suite was to slip keen bladed stilettos into their boots. They walked down the stairs and into the lobby. They were almost out the door when the manager stopped them. He gave them the once over, noticing the rank sashes, before saying, "You were technicians when you came in, we're you not?" His tone was subtle enough to let them know that his memory was still as sharp as the S'Harien that hung on the lobby wall. Next he gazed at the sashes, "Now you're Secundums." His expression turned speculative. "Either the fleet promotes quicker these days, or you're impostors, or you're with..."
During his spiel, the manager's hands had come to rest in a crossed position over his chest. Thus, he was unable to defend himself when Silk whipped out his stiletto and pressed it to the manager's throat, taking advantage of the surprise to push him into the back office.
"You will forget that you've ever seen us." He whispered into the man's ear, and then the five were safely out of sight.
Without batting an eye, the Romulan calmly inquired, "Why?"
Silk continued the scenario by smiling, "Please forgive me," he said lowering the blade while reaching into his pocket, "but you could've blown our cover."
The manager relaxed a little, "Then you are with...?"
"The Tal'Shiar, yes." Silk replied, pulling out the third identicard and handing it to the manager, who examined it.
"Of course, Commander Perth, I will do what you say." At that promise, Silk put his blade back in his boot. The manager relaxed and saluted Silk. "Good luck with your mission."
"Thank you, although something as fickle as luck doesn't enter the equation." Silk said, with all the arrogance of an Intel Officer, "Jolan Tro, and good fortune." He continued, and then led his companions out of the complex.
The moment the double doors closed, Jarius moved up behind Silk and whispered, "Wasn't that just a wee bit risky?"
"What's life without a few risks?" Silk threw back with a smile.
