Operation Bird Catcher p11
Immediately after leaving the apartment, the three agents ducked into a darkened corridor and quickly changed into Centurion Uniforms.
Jarius glanced down as his disguised tricorder beeped. “It’s about time,” he muttered.
Chaiko glanced at Jarius, “Hmm?”
“Random scan,” Jarius explained, “I was beginning to wonder if it was going to happen.”
Silk nodded and finished adjusting the uniform. “At least we know that the sub dermal transponders work.” The transponders were the newest toys from the quartermaster’s office, and were designed to fool enemy sensors.
The oriental gave a serene smile and waited a moment before commenting, “We can look forward to more challenges as we get closer to the scout ship.”
It took them another ten minutes to cross the station and walk through the central hub, before arriving at the outer door that led to the docking bay. On the other side lay a hundred feet of corridor, eight guards, and the Valkyre.
As they approached the door, Martin commented, "Here goes nothing. All we have to do is make it to the ship, then we can disappear."
Before Jarius could say anything, Silk said, "If the cards work, we'll make it, if they don't we won't."
Chiako gave a calm smile that promised the wisdom of his oriental ancestors and Martin looked, to the left, to the right, at anything but Silk.
As the door opened, the four paused for a moment. Instead of the expected eight guards, there were ten. Jarius glanced at Silk, who nodded slightly. They could still call it off, but it would look strange if they turned around and left.
Here goes nothing, Jarius thought as they came to a halt in front of the first pair of guards, who escorted them to the center post. Moments later, the sergeant of the guard stepped forward and saluted with one hand, while resting the other one over the grip of his disruptor pistol.
"Halt, identify yourselves and state your purpose." He barked, holding out his hand.
"Centurion's Derus, Parte, Kasz, and Sedus. We have orders to take the ship and test the cloaking device." Silk replied, returning the salute.
The sergeant's eyes narrowed as he examined Silk. "Identicards please." When the four operatives held out the cards, he took them and ran them through a computer reader. They all waited breathlessly as the computer digested the information. The door obligingly opened, allowing them to enter.
Before they could step forward, the third guard intercepted them. “According to your orders, you weren’t due to arrive for another two days.”
Tal-Shiar, Silk thought as he considered all of his options. “We borrowed a shuttle and came to test the new upgrades prior to the Commander’s arrival.”
The disguised Tal-Shiar officer examined each of the four officers. “Where did you dock your shuttle?”
“In bay four.” Jarius replied. If Slider came through.
The disguised Captain looked Silk in the eye as he signaled the sergeant to look it up in the computer. Moments later, the soldier confirmed it. “Shuttle S’Trae is in bay four, it arrived this morning.”
The Captain kept his gaze on Silk for a few more minutes, then grunted, “Good hunting, Centurions.”
