The noise

When it happened, I was masturbating.

A porn with two Chinese women, intertwined.

At first, I thought something was wrong in the computer. I immediately thought of my wife. What if she caught me?
Feverishly, I turned off the screen and tweaked my pants. And there, I realized that the noise did not stop.

It resonated in my ears and became unpleasant. It sounded like the ring of one of those old alarm clocks. One of those you dream of breaking against the wall every morning.

I searched for the origin of this shrill sound throughout the room, without success.

I went out and realized that it was following me.

A noise that follows you, it's impossible, right?
I joined my wife on the ground floor, and I caught her rummaging around. She emptied the cupboards frantically and threw everything on the floor. It was a total mess.

I lent him a hand, to no avail. We did not find anything that could have caused this unbearable noise.

After a while, I turned on the TV, I'm not sure why, probably hoping to counter the noise. It was there that we discovered that it was not just about us.

The presenter spoke in a jerky tone, as if disturbed. He, too, heard the noise.

He explained that the phenomenon spread to the whole world.
Every human being heard it.

Our daughter started crying in her cradle. My wife took it, wanted to rock it, nothing to do.
Me, I was taped on TV.

In the evening, a guy who looked like a scientist said that the noise did not come from an outside source, but from our brains.

There, I understood that we were in the shit.
I went out on the street. There were not many people.

The few people who were talking to each other shouted to make themselves understood. Of course, the only topic of conversation was noise.

Migraines started the next day. Everyone was suffering. Normal, at the same time, when you have a nightclub that bawls out in the brain!

The night had been very hard. Impossible to sleep. And our girl ... the poor cried continuously. She had bloodshot eyes, and an expression of madness on her face. It's not normal, this kind of expression on a child of barely a year.

She died the next day.
Not long after, my wife committed suicide, without saying a word. She looked me in the eye, took a knife, cut her throat. And she collapsed.

I thought I was going to cry, but the noise kept me from feeling anything. There was only that: the noise.

So I ate chips.

I did not know what else to do. I understood that it was the end of the world. So, I was not really sad for my wife and my daughter. When everyone is in the same mess, when everywhere we lose foot, death loses its importance.
I gathered all the chips and all the beer I had at home, I landed on the couch, and I let go of the TV.

Three-quarters of the chains were no longer working, and all those still walking were talking about noise.
Except Arte. On Arte, there were animal documentaries.

I watched, from my couch, with a migraine not possible and TV thoroughly, the humanity that was fighting its last battle.

On a channel, we gave advice on finding drugs. Apparently, it was the only thing that attenuated the noise. But not just grass. At least coke, or meth. It had become the most expensive products in the world overnight, more expensive than diamonds, more expensive than anything.

I did not care, I knew I was going to die soon.

On another channel, there was a gathering of politicians who explained that countries around the world had answered the call and were actively seeking a solution.

The greatest brains of humanity had been assembled.
It scared me. If they found a solution, everything returned to normal, then I would be alone, and the death of my family would take on a much more dramatic dimension.

But the more the days passed and the more humanity sank without announcing a solution.

The TV channels were closing one after the other, and the few reporters who were holding out had their features dug, their complexions gray, their faces exhausted.

Politicians no longer came to TV sets. The bimbos who once tried to shine before the public with eccentric behavior or remarks of calculated stupidity, had deserted, too. In fact, there was no one left,
I started to lose a little pedal.

I had almost no more chips, I had not slept for a week. The noise tapped me more and more.

But I still held good. I waited to witness the definitive decline of humanity. And that made me laugh. A nuclear war? Nature rebelling? A virus ? No. We were going to disappear because of a noise.

A damn awakening sound.

I hung until the last TV channel gives up.
Finally, except Arte who continued to broadcast his animal documentaries.

There, I realized that my turn was coming.
I went down the streets of Paris. I saw the cars across, the disemboweled shops, the overflowing garbage cans,
I went to the Arc de Triomphe.

I do not really know why. I thought it would be a pretty cool death.

I climbed to the top and was a little disappointed to see another guy getting ready to do the same as me.

We looked at each other, and he smiled at me. He said, "A cool death, huh? "

I laughed, I said yes, and I jumped.

Fucking noise.
