A Jeezzle Book Review: Wool by Hugh Howey

in #fiction7 years ago

I love dystopian fiction. I love the idea of a future world that's gone wrong somehow.

I'm not saying that I would want to live in that world because I definitely wouldn't..........but I really love to read about it.

There are a handful of dystopian fiction books that I just couldn't live without if I happened to be on a deserted island somewhere.

Most of these books were written by my favorite author Philip K. Dick.

There are even a few by Stephen King.

The rest are probably from authors that the general public hasn't heard much about.

Indie authors.

One of my favorite Indie authors is Hugh Howey.

He started writing his series called "Wool" as single chapters that he released on Amazon.com and then released the full Omnibus book.

How long is Wool?

Well first of all you should know that Wool is book one of three in The Silo series.

The books continue with the series called Shift and follow with a series called Dust for a total of 9 books.

Once you read Wool you are in for a long series of reading so be prepared.

So what is Wool about?

Well it's obviously a variation of a dystopian future.

The remaining survivors in the world are all crammed into a single underground silo.

This Silo has 150 floors and each floor serves a different purpose.

One floor is dedicated to making water while another floor is dedicated to making food and another floor is dedicated to running computers.

You are trained in a certain job and that will be your job for the rest of your life....... if you are making water than you will be a water maker forever.

Nobody can go outside because the air is poisoned and you will die after only a few minutes out there.

There is only one rule in the silo. That rule is that you cannot say "I want to go outside."

If you say you want to go outside then you are put outside to die.

Supposedly this is to quell unrest. After all........ thousands of people have to live together in this tiny crammed underground Silo. The last thing we need is somebody saying they need to go outside and causing a riot. Better to put one person out then to take a chance on a riot that could cause hundreds to die.

Is Wool an easy read?

No. It is heartbreaking. It is full of despair and it will stay with you possibly for the rest of your life.

However, it is definitely a worthwhile read.

You will find yourself absorbed by the story, attached to the main character, and struggling to find out what is really going on.

So don't let the government put the wool over YOUR eyes.

Pick up a copy of Wool today.

I hope you liked this one.

It is a great book, but so immersive that you feel very oppressed. I read it about two years ago, and still sometimes have this nightmarish feeling of confinement and walls closing in.
When you find out how it came to the situation the people are in you will see our current political/societal climate with different eyes.

I'd be interested in this one. I enjoy dystopian themed stories a lot. I tend to gravitate towards that genre of book, tv series, and movie. I've never heard of this one though. Good share and review.

I know you would love it but it is very oppressive as well it's hard not to imagine yourself in the situation that these people are in.

Wow its cover looks so cool ....i think this book is on fire....
