RE: Personal Story Slam Challenge 1 - I Have No Name and I Must Scream
This is such a nice, tightly packed story. Great origin story for the name! You know, my eyes were welling up a bit at the beginning, but then I broke into laughter when the nurse suggested "Scott Bradley 1" haha! I'm not sure if I want to live in a world where names are primary keys haha! Definitely an interesting scenario though. It really made me think about the whole universe as a hologram theory. If we're all just bits of 1s and 0s, then it would entirely make sense. But, the kicker was that they were all self-aware about their whole situation, which was a smart addition on your part.
The way you wrote the first part though was very touching. I really took my time to take that all in. This is you in your element, and what a way to tell the origin story of your name. It would be interesting to revisit this world solely for contests. I know that you would be up for that challenge, mate :D
Wonderful comment, I appreciate the time to list out your thoughts in detail. In a way the story was based on the way I actually did come up with the name naquoya. Not wanting all those added numbers like gmail suggest when trying to find a username for the email service.
After some thought the setting of the story appeared, with the digital hologram type environment. Just touched on, but enough for the reader to get a feel for the world and understand its connection to the name drama at its heart.
There is a split personality to the story, in a way. Deliberate, but hopefully not jarring. As for future competitions; yes I'm in. Now what are the rules :)
Yeah, that's what I wanted to touch on. You really established a whole universe in a brief amount of time. That takes skill, and you have it in spades, mate! I still laugh at that scene with the primary key haha It really cuts the tension so effectively.
