Don't Build Track in Anger! A Children's Fictional Story With a Moral

in #fiction7 years ago (edited)

There was once a little steam train called Sammy, he would get angry over the littlest of things and when he did, he would shove the other trains and say mean things to them.

One day Daddy train gave him some track to lay and told him "every time that you bump, push or say mean things in anger, you have to lay a piece of track that heads away from the train sheds. At the end of the day, you will need to sleep at the end of the train track you build.

Also you must think about why you are laying each piece of track, think how your shove or mean words might have hurt the other train and think what you could do instead, next time."

On the first day Sammy built 15 tracks away from the trains sheds and he slept at the end of the track away from the train sheds and he felt a little bit sorry for the all shoves and means things he had said.

On the second day, Sammy built 10 more tracks away from the engine sheds, so when it came to the the end of the day, he was even further away from the warmth and comfort of the sheds. He began to really feel actually sorry for his misdeeds.

On the 3rd day, Sammy lay down 5 tracks and he found himself beginning to say sorry as he laid each track. He began to think hard about the way that he had acted and how he could act instead. He thought it wasn't a very nice feeling when people were displeased with you, or tried to avoid you because you were known not to be nice.

It was hard work laying all these tracks all by himself and he also felt lonely. He had asked for help, but nobody seemed to want to help him. Now, he knew why.

Sammy decided that from now on, he would be nice and kind, as he liked having friends. he would stop all that shoving, pushing and saying mean words to other trains and do kind things for them.

So the next day, he offered to take a message to the man on the other side of town for Roger, looked after the steam twins for Jessica for an hour and he felt the smiles and love and it felt good.

He didn't get angry at all that day and he felt proud. When Sammy's Daddy heard this, he came and gave him a big WELL DONE and said "for everyday that you do not get angry for a whole day, you can pull up 10 tracks."

In three days, Sammy enjoyed had pulled up all the tracks and had enjoyed a great and friendly welcome back at the engine sheds. He slept better than he had in weeks.

Daddy took him back to where the tracks had been laid and there were imprints of where the track had been and said: "these imprints are the hurts you have caused others and sometimes they can never be completely forgotten, no matter how many times you say sorry.

But know that your friends and family will love you and forgive you and help you, as long as you try your best to be kind and nice to people. It's never too late to turn over a new leaf.

There is not one of us who has not left an imprint, but we if we all make an effort to be kind and love one another, there will be far less hurts."

Sammy had learnt a valuable lesson and became one of most loved trains in his town.

This is a story based on this short tale: Nails on the Fence.

Do you think you could come up with your own version too?
