Yea, It's such a painful one to experience well that still wont stop such occurrences from happening. Alot of people have watched their elder or younger ones dies before their eyes.
We just hope and pray against such.
I may check the book out. Most times such adaptations don't usually work. It won't capture the essence of the book or sometimes just go far far far overboard.
Though Literature and Films exist in their separate worlds.
