The resounding echos of his footsteps had her cringing and trying harder to fit into the back of the door. It was a dark and cold night, One of the coldest in California and Maya Hensley clutched the wooded vase tighter in her hand as she heard sound drew nearer.

"Maya " He beckoned as he drew nearer.

She closed her eyes tight as she prepared her mind, she wouldn't let him hurt her. This time she was prepared to fight. She was determined to escape from the man she had married, the monster she had married because he was no man.
She winced in pain as she felt warm blood trickle down her forehead. The moment his shadow appeared she swung with all the strength left in her.
He fell limply to the ground and Maya sighed in relief. SHE WAS FREE.

She glanced around hurriedly and noted the keys on the table. She needed to get out of here as soon as possible .
Without thinking she grabbed the keys and ran.
