Memories of a lifetime- Chapter 9

                            

The three of them left the hospital just after five o clock. Jonathan decided to go back to the apartment to fetch some clothes so that he could spend a few days with his mom at the hotel. It would still be a few days before Chloe was discharged and Lorraine wanted to hang around until Chloe was settled in. Alicia was going to stay behind and look after the twins so she felt less worried about what would happen after she went back to her life. 

Alicia went to her room to take a shower before her date,  and Lorraine poured herself a drink. The last two days had really taken its toll on her energy and she sat on the couch feeling totally exhausted.  

She was just about to go take a shower when she heard a familiar beep on her phone. It was a message from Alex.

Miss you. Hope to see you soon! xx

She replied and then went to the bathroom to take a long hot bath instead of a shower. She felt exhausted and didn't feel like dressing up.  She dressed in a plain black pant suit, and wore very little make up. She made a ponytail and then tied her hair into a bun. Even without the usual amount of make up she looked good, and she felt better when she took the elevator down to the hotel restaurant. 

Jonathan was already waiting for her and the restaurant manager showed her to the table personally. They had a lovely dinner and shared a bottle of wine. They needed some winding down time, and the wine seemed to do the trick. It was still early when Lorraine and her son retired to their room.  

Jonathan had all the characteristics of his mother. He was tall and handsome and could easily have become a model, but decided to pursue a different career. He was studying to become a lawyer and planned to take over his mother's affairs after he graduated. He wanted to take a year off to travel with Chloe but she had her own dreams and wanted to move to New York after finishing High School. 

Jonathan did not want to let her come alone, so he put his own plans aside to support his sister.  They made a pact, that when he finished his studies, she would go traveling with him, before pursuing their different careers. Chloe was into design and had an internship at one of New York's finest designer houses. 

Chloe had always been the strong one and even though Jonathan was the first born, Chloe was the one that took leadership. He loved her so much, and all he wanted to do all his life was to protect her. They had their normal brother and sister fights, but he was the one that usually gave in to her demands.  

Chloe couldn't sleep. She felt as if she had been in a train wreck. She was worried about her job, but her mom assured her that she spoke to the owner of the designer house and that everything would be okay. Chloe hated the fact that her mom arranged for her to get the job there, but it was an opportunity that she couldn't pass and she was grateful for the chance to prove herself. 

Chloe wanted to make a name for herself without anyone's help and chose to be as far away as possible to stand on her own two feet. She felt sorry for Jonathan because she knew how much he wanted to travel, but it was her time now, and it was his choice to come here with her. 

The nurse came in to give her an injection for pain, and within minutes Chloe fell asleep. 

It was just after eight o clock when Jonathan opened the hotel room door and Lorraine entered the room. She felt more relaxed and poured them each a drink. They sat chatting in the living room of the suite, when Jonathan received a phone call, and asked his mom if she would mind if he went out with his friends. She wanted to spend time with him but she was also exhausted due to a lack of sleep and told him that he should go. 

Once he left, she finished her drink and retired to bed.  It was just before two o clock in the morning in Paris, and there was no way that she was going to wake up Alex now to chat to him, but she missed him, even more than she would have liked to admit. 

She decided to send him a text message and was surprised when she heard a beep. She realized that he was awake. They texted for about an hour, and Lorraine felt like a teenager. Every message made her tingle, and she told him that she couldn't wait to get back to Paris. She wanted to see him again and she missed him. She smiled at herself and felt a longing that she had never felt in her life, not even for Richard. They said their goodbyes and Lorraine was just about to turn in when there was a knock on the door. 

It was Alicia, and she seemed to be floating on a cloud. 

"I'm going to marry him Lorraine...I'm sure that he is the one!"

Alicia took off her shoes and jumped into bed with Lorraine and told her all about the date. She looked like a teenager in love for the first time and was too excited to sleep. They chatted for quite a while before falling asleep. 

Jonathan came back just after eleven o clock and found Alicia and Lorraine sound asleep in the big king-size bed.  He knew that there was a bond between Alicia and Lorraine that no one could break and he was happy that his mom had such a good friend. He switched off the light and retired to Alicia's adjoining room.
