What's So Special About High Heels?
...you've probably wondered at some point in your life why men (and women) are so darn attracted to a gorgeous pair of heels?
HIGH HEELS IN HISTORY
According to Wikipedia, heels were actually worn first by men (Gasp!). There were both practical reasons and superficial ones. Practically speaking, men had heels on their boots while riding horses which helped to keep their feet in the stirrups. As well, there were periods in history when it was seen as more of a symbol of status. Wearing a heel elevated the wearer physically which in turn symbolized a higher standing. Supposedly heeled shoes were hard to come by and quite expensive which further reinforced this association.
It only really came in the 1900s when the heel was seen as more of a feminine object. This was proliferated by the old fashion pin-up girl posters. At some point, the pin-up models began appearing wearing high heels. After many years of men hanging posters of these pin-up girls and seeing them in heels, the link was made. There formed a sexual association. It's quite fascinating to consider how these often seen objects of affection were once commonly worn on the ugly cracked feet of overweight wealthy men. How times have changed!

This is something interesting to talk about. I can’t deny the fact that a lot of the times, women wear heels as an instrument of power. As a retired dancer, I can tell ya that when you walk across the room with some 5 inches high heels, you definitely feel more powerful.

I have met women totally crazy about heels, to the point of not being able to leave the house or go to a meeting without them. I remember that she said a phrase like: "a woman without heels is a woman without a future". Very crazy, right?
Thanks for the comment. Yes, I'm sure there are many like that but perhaps it's no different than the rest of us who have our obsessions. There are those who must make every hair on their head perfect for leaving the house to others who can't go without a week of missing the Sunday or Monday night football games. We are human; perfectly imperfect. :)
