The Workshop Encounter

By @bobrandolph
This story is a luscious read.
In one way or another it seems like a familiar situation.
But now we have to wonder, what really happened to us?

  • We are actively soliciting three sentence reviews of recent work. This is an excellent way to get your name seen in the fiction community. Simply PM it to any of the curators or post it in the trail. We will make sure you get credited and there may even be some awards!

  • What we need in order to promote a Fiction work.

The Fiction trail receives many posts, and we actively search out many more. Some are promoted and some are not, and a writer, who puts a lot of work into their work, has to wonder why we may have passed them over.

The first and most important reason we pass over a post is because we can’t find it. Using the #fiction tag assures that we will see it, but many other things can bring it to our attention as well. Posting it at the Fiction-Trail Discussion Group of SteemTrail will certainly get our attention, as will some common keywords like scifi, drama, horror, etc.

The second most common reason we turn down a post is because it requires too much basic editing. Our goal, our whole reason for existing, is to improve the quality of Steemit posts by rewarding those who put the most effort into making interesting, readable, and professionally edited and formatted posts. Your story may be touching, exciting, and wonderful, but if it does not reflect the highest quality of posts we all want on Steemit (to increase the value of STEEM), we may vote on the post ourselves, but we cannot promote it. Our job is to only promote the best. If it is only a few editing or formatting problems, we will talk to you and help you improve the post. In fact, we often ask each other for editing help or critiques when we write our own posts.

An absolute full-stop problem is plagiarism. So far no one has tried to slip a copied work past us, but we do often have to ask people to double check their citation and attribution of quotes and images. We use a variety of plagiarism checkers to help us provide some assurance that we are not promoting intellectual property theft.

The last check is subjective. We read the post, every post we promote. A majority of our curation team reads, discusses, and evaluates the story itself. If we simply don’t like it, we will not promote it. We give a very wide range to that standard. We don’t have to love it, we just have to like it. We have to feel that we enjoyed reading it and that others might enjoy it too. This involves things like making sure it actually has a story - a beginning, a conflict, a resolution - and that the characters are believable, engaging, and real to us.

Any story can be told poorly, or told well. There are online guides to turn your story, which may be incredible, into good storytelling. We would love for your story to pass the test and be promoted as one of the best #fiction posts of the day on Steemit.

A short little horror story for your enjoyment.
Considering the username perhaps that is not a surprise.
Remember, don't go down in the cellar.
