#125: Melvin's Marauders -Culture Shock

a few days later

“We’re arriving soon people, look sharp.” Melvin told his people. They all wore ‘omni-suits’ made from SSmoke and they’d all purchased “night on the town” programs. The omni-suits could be configured to be anything they wanted. It was real handy and they DID look really sharp.

Finally they were there. Fluffy swam slowly closer. Melvin carefully aligned the huge harvester to the Skirmish’s home Barge. Fluffy ‘gently’ grasped the barge with it’s tentacles and pulled itself closer, nose to nose. Then it held tight just to make sure they didn’t drift apart.

Barges and other water craft were floating near the Banana Slug. The immediate area was enveloped in a huge cloud of SSmoke. Within that cloud marvelous things were possible, such as flying like superman. The Skirmishes, husband and wife, were both in hovering auto-docs waiting at the end of their barge when Fluffy ‘opened the door’ for the Marauders to exit.

“Glad to meet you.” Carlos said “You’ll forgive us if we don’t stand and bow. We were in an accident. It’ll be a while yet before we’re up and around.”

The dark angel beside him said.”We’ll do our best to be adequate hosts regardless.”

Melvin listened with interest, was cordial and polite. He was maxing out his Social capabilities. Everyone gathered onto the barge’s porch. It was a big porch but there were a lot of Marauders.

“KC” Karlee said ”would you mind showing these boys and girls around? I’m sure that our discussion will be boring.”

“Yes Ma’am” Carl replied. “I surely will. If you need me though don’t hesitate to call.”

Karl/Carl and three avatars, (two were small flying foxes?) rounded up the Marauders. They huddled briefly at the far end of the barge then as a group they lifted off like superman and flew into the interior of the Banana Slug.

“Carl? “ Melvin asked Carlos. “ When I hear the name Carl there’s usually an horror-ific preceding the name.’

Karlee giggled “You mean like “‘What the hell Karl!”

Carlos smiled also “Or at the very least something like “Seriously Carl?”

Melvin agreed “Yes, that’s exactly right. I understand that Carl is quiet the hell raiser. Much like I was at his age. I need to meet with him personally and discuss technique.”

Carlos laughed and nodded his head in the affirmative ”That would be true. They are definitely a pair. That all changed when he met the egg-child. She adopted him. Her avatar is one of the little flying foxes that accompany him. Foxy doesn’t let him out of her sight. They come to visit quite frequently. Foxy and my daughter are close friends.

For the first time since Melvin had known her, a VERY long time, TigerMom broke a smile “ The young man is Yokai is he not?”

Karlee nodded as if she were familiar with the term “Yes he is, or as my people say , a peri.”

Carlos and Melvin had blank expressions on their faces.

That would be ‘two minds in one brain’ Karlee said, “such people are considered to be very holy by some cultures.”

“You have a daughter?” Melvin controlled his shock by changing the subject.

“YES!” Karlee beamed! She rubbed her belly. “She’ll be born very soon!”

Didn’t work. His shock got worse.

it's hard to tell what’s true or when they are lying isn’t it? It seems that they are more interested in influencing public opinion than they are reporting the facts.
