#32: Levi - “More beer?”

Levi asked. His two neighbors were just sitting there open mouthed.

“No? How bout some popcorn? “Levi asked.

They turned and looked at him, eyes wide. Numbly they accepted. The three of them were sitting on the porch happily eating popcorn when a news van came to a screeching halt in front of their house. A pretty little lady jumped out of the car with a camera crew in hot pursuit.

They immediately began videoing the scene.

The PIO on scene waved at the TV Crew frantically. “DOWN!!”

He shouted. “Get down. We’re taking fire.”

The news crew ignored him. Oh! This was so much fun. This was so exciting. The camera crew and the news lady, safe in the knowledge that no one would EVER hurt them, walked over the the PIO. The Crew set up. The tactical make up person touched up the news lady’s mascara. The interview began.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Murphy Brown. I’m reporting for Live at Five. I’m on the Mean Scene. I’ll take chances and get the news so you don’t have to. Sources have informed us that your very own boy’s in blue are bravely protecting us from, er from what sir? “ She stuck the mike in the PIO’s face.

“Drug lords. Terrorists. Motorcycle gangs. The Cartel. Why they must have a thousand weapons in there. We’re out numbered. I’m calling for air support!” about that time the sound of a helicopter became evident.

“AH, here it is” the PIO shouted as a,

News helicopter slowly flew into view. It was a competing news network. It hovered above them. Cameras were evident.

“Can you tell us what happened sir?” the news woman attempted to regain the PIO’s attention. Damn helicopter. Now it was no longer an exclusive.

About then the cops realized they were shooting at each other and stopped. Slowly they began standing up and getting out from behind trees, un-stomped shrubbery and plastic lawn furniture. A garden gnome would never be the same. It had taken several direct hits.

Oddly enough. Nothing else had. The cops were all wearing body armor and none were injured. Their vehicles were dead though. The internal sympathetic explosions as well as the fusillade of bullets had done them in. Even the radios no longer worked. Every window had been shot out. One or two of the cop-cars were burning.
