Cody
One neighborhood only had one child. All the residents except for one single mother had no children. Today Marc was walking with Cody. Cody was about four.
“What happened to your legs?” Cody asked him.
That was one thing that Marc purely loved about young pre-school children. They were innocent and pure. If they wanted to know something they just came out and asked. There wasn’t any PC or beating around the bush.
“I was in a war and the bad guys blew them off” Marc said.
“Did it hurt?” Cody asked.
“Yup. It hurt a lot.” Marc told him.
Were you scared?” Cody asked.
“I certainly was.” Marc replied “I was terrified.”
Cody didn’t say much for a little bit. Then he reached up and took Marc’s finger in his hand.
“That’s OK. I’ll look after you. It’ll be alright.” Cody was as serious as he could be. For some odd reason Marc had a little bit of trouble seeing. Must be dust in the air he thought, or maybe it was the rain. It was still raining.
“Thank you Cody ” Marc told him “ I really appreciate that. It makes me feel much safer to know that you care.”
After that day Cody was always there to walk the beat with Marc, light rain or heavy rain. It seemed to have been raining forever.

You're not going to kill off poor little Cody are you? Pull on people's heart strings, then yank so hard they all fall down clutching at their heart and the betrayal of it all? Or have something happen to Marc, as he tries to save poor little Cody from the big bad gun wielding democraps.
Keep an eye on Cody...sneaky little guy. He'll surprise you.
