#104: Daniel Freemartin - Operators are Standing By.

“Hi there” the dragon said. It was perched right in front of him, on the bow of his kayak.



Hi” Daniel said “ How bout this weather? I don’t think I’ve see the sun in months.”

The dragon sat there and stared at him while muttering to itself “People react in the strangest ways. Who’d a thunk?”

“It’s a survival thing I think” Daniel stepped in without missing a beat. “It’s either talk or I start shooting at you. If you’d rather I did that I can oblige.”

Daniel pulled out a Glock

“Glock’s just work” he said “No rust, no muss, no fuss, they just go bang when you want em too. The perfect boomstick. I’ve seen watermocasins around here, although they didn’t stop to speak. Any kin of yours?”

“They’re the black sheep of the family” the dragon sighed. Then it looked closer at the gun, which was centered on it’s forehead and said. “Say! Is that a Seventeen Gen One? Do you know how RARE they are?”

Daniel was surprised. A dragon that was a gun-nut? Then he reconsidered. They DID have snakes for relatives. Perhaps even lawyers shudder. They had to do something to defend themselves.

“Yeah.” he admitted “I actually found it in the back of a trailer. I think the trucker might have dropped it unawares, during an unload.”

“You might be right” the dragon agreed. “How else could it have gotten there?”

“Some how I don’t think you’re here to talk about guns. You want to discuss wimmen or beer? How bout Trucks?” Daniel looked at the dragon sideways.

“noooooo. I’m not here to talk about any of that. I was thinking about discussing the end of the world” it said.

“Oh yeah.” Daniel said “I noticed that. Kinda wet isn’t it?”

Introductions and pleasantries finished, the dragon got to the reason for it being there. It’s purpose was to offer assistance. It explained everything about some things, and somethings about everything then it said it had to go.

“Foxy is waking up.” it said “ I have to go. One more thing. You might have noticed that fishing isn’t all that good?”

“I dunno” Daniel said” Oddly enough I don’t have any fishing gear”

“Oh.” the Dragon said “That could definitely be a problem then. There are towns and villages under the water ”

Daniel waited. Obviously the dragon had something else to say, but it was baiting him. It obviously expect him to reply...so he did.

“And?” he replied , then waited.

The Dragon waited for Daniel to say something else. He didn’t. If a dragon could frown it would have. It finally relented and said. “ You’re no fun. Well like I was saying about those towns and villages, cities even. They have grocery stores. Some of them still have food on the shelves, some of which are in waterproof containers. Some of it’s probably still good. A word to the wise is sufficient...now I really got to go.”

“mi avatar es tu avatar.... Ta Ta” Then it was gone. The lights weren’t on behind it’s eyes any longer. What just recently was an intelligent being was now just a puppet.

Aha! A puppet. Daniel LIKED puppets. He’d try it on his own self. He did that. He find out how well it could swim. He WAS getting low on food.

That had been weeks ago. He’d learned real quick how make the dragon swim for him and use it to plunder and pillage...er.....that is salvage and recover.....food from flooded stores. That solved all of his immediate nutrition problems

He was no longer pressed for time. He could sit back and think about what he was going to do long term. Strangely enough he no longer felt any desire to go back to his life from before the flood, such as it had been. He’d not had a very a happy life there so why subject himself to it any longer if he didn’t need to? There had been too damn many rules and regulations. Too many taxes. With the Dragon Avatar and the technology that had literally fallen out of the sky into his lap he had no need to put up with any of that. He’d just drop out of society. It was the perfect opportunity to do so. If there still was a society. If not...so much the better...problem solved.

Perhaps he’d just fish for a while. Maybe he’d surf the internet if it still existed. The FAQ sheet had said something about being able to do that in Augmented Reality with the neuro-loop thing he had around his neck. How he could get a connection was a mystery but it seemed to imply that it was possible.

He’d try that.

Nope.

Broadcast TV was right out. Oh he got a connection all right. A good one, he didn’t know how, but it was way too depressing. If the news wasn’t bad enough one would think that in the event of a planetary disaster the advertisers would show some class, at least on national Television News Feeds? People were dying by the hundreds of thousands and they were STILL running commercials advertising erectile dysfunction relief, breast enlargement services, and pet food. The internet sites were even worse.

Spam was out of control. None of them had any class or showed any respect. He couldn’t stomach it.

What ELSE was available.

Hmmmmm. TheUser Manuel for his avatar had said something about “Operators are standing by if he had any questions?”

He had some.

When watching the LameStream FakeNews Media

it's hard to tell what’s true or when they are lying isn’t it? It seems that they are more interested in influencing public opinion than they are reporting the facts.
