Roy asked me out of the blue. "What’s it like to be dead?”

“How should I know?” I replied "I’m not”

“As far as the government, all of them, and everyone else is concerned you are.” he replied..”So is Shaniqua.”

“I never thought about that” I told him "I guess it’s kinda liberating. All debts are canceled (for the dead) when you die. It’s up to the descendants to pay, or the estate. Since I don’t have any either, anyone I was indebted to would be out of luck. If I did owe anyone. Which I didn’t.”

“Except for the government” Roy said "They think you owe them just for the privilege of living.”

“There’s that” I agreed.

“But you’re dead.” he repeated.”so you do NOT owe them.”

“You’re confusing me.” I told him.

He didn’t answer. He just smiled. Rather hard to see behind that bushy beard he was growing. It was thicker than mine. I was jealous. I’d have to make some changes my own self.
