Walking the line pt4

James and Colleen arrived at the auditorium, already amazed by what they saw. The sign for “The Incredible Mist” was lit up with what looked like a three-dimensional neon dragon that was flying around and through the illuminated letters. They had gotten front row tickets to the show, which was lucky for them because they both thought that magic shows were pointless beyond the first 12 rows. As they got their drinks and arrived at their seats, they partook in the usual small talk until the show began.
They had never seen anything even close to the skill this illusionist must have had to do these tricks. Many illusionists would saw a person in half and be done with it, but this “Mist” person was sawing people in thirds, and then performing with the thirds. He would shake the hands of the box with their torso, play hackey sack with the box with the legs, and have actual conversations with the box that had the assistant’s head. He had performed the three-second tank disappearance, and by that point it didn’t even surprise them because of all the other incredible things they had seen. James and Colleen both, toward the end of the show, looked at each other in complete disbelief as Mist pulled out a large cardboard box and made a mannequin arm pull the rest of his props for that night into the box. There’s no way this illusionist was actually doing this. Were they drugged? Were they watching a movie?

Questions of doubt filled their minds when they heard Mist say loudly, “Who would like to join me for my final display? I need two volunteers.” James raised his hand, as did many other people in the crowd who were filled with doubt of this performer’s actual abilities. James was picked along with a man in a nice green suit. They both walked onto the stage, and James got a closer look at the outfit of this “Incredible Mist.” He was wearing a pitch black suit, so flawlessly colored it looked like the suit itself had been polished. He had a bright green shirt under his suit, and a green band around his top hat. The rest of his suit looked just as high quality and perfect as his suit coat, even down to the perfectly-formed shoes and shoelace knots the perfect length. James didn’t have much time to wonder about those, though, because what he saw next confused him the most. Mist’s eyes, he noticed, were neon green. Not just the pupils were green, and they weren’t contacts. The entirety of his eyes, from one eyelid down to the other and all the way horizontal, were neon green and almost glowing. James raised an eyebrow, but was distracted then by Mist’s captivating voice.
