Foxie on a mission - A story for children aged 7-12 - PART 4
Milo tried not to smile but he could not contain himself. Jasper lifted his one eyebrow while looking at Milo and trying to figure out what was so funny. Poor little Foxie let his ears down and wasn't sure what was going on either. As Milo became aware that he was the only one laughing, he snorted and pulled a straight face.
"A fox named Foxie," Milo said teasingly. "Did you name yourself or what?"
Both Foxie and Jasper just looked at him with frowns on their faces.
"You are being rude, Milo!" Jasper snapped at him. "Can't you see the little one is frightened and now you want to make fun of him? Really smooth, you clown!" and with that, Jasper lifted his lip a little to show Milo he was serious by exposing his teeth.
Foxie started to shiver and before Milo could react to Jasper's threat, Foxie was in tears.
"Now, now, little one," Milo comforted him. "We were just kidding. Come on, let's get you some water."
With Milo walking in front, Foxie and Jasper followed behind him. They crossed the dusty road that separated the woods from the cabin and once they got to the other side, Foxie stopped and turned his head to the side. Milo did not notice and continued walking towards the water bowl but Jasper stopped and turned his head around to see what was keeping Foxie.
With ears alert and his snout pointed in the air, Foxie smelled viciously all around him. Jasper was just about to ask him what the matter was, when Milo's voice cut through his ears like a sharp knife.
"Helloooo, are you coming or what?" said the voice of a sarcastic Milo who could not be seen anywhere. He was already behind the cabin, ready to show Foxie where the bowl of water was. "Or shall I perhaps serve it to you on a silver platter? How would you like it - still or sparkling?"
Milo came back trotting around the corner, taking much pleasure in his latest joke.
"Oh you're so funny," said Jasper while rolling his eyes. *"You should really start auditioning for the circus!"
"What a great idea, Jasp!" replied Milo. "I might just do that after you tell me what's keeping the two of you. I thought Foxie the fox was thirsty?"
Because Jasper was old and wise, he knew it would be best to just ignore Milo as conversations like these could go on for hours on end whenever Milo was in a cheerful mood like that.
"Excuse my friend," Jasper apologized. "He gets like that when he's unsure of himself. What's bugging you, little fella?"
Milo smirked. He had a really clever reply but decided to just keep it for another day as he could see that Jasper was getting annoyed. Quite frankly, he was starting to annoy himself as well. He turned around, put his tail up and pointed with his snout to the right. "Food and water, this way!" he snapped, pulled his eyeballs in another direction and pretended to be a statue as Jasper and Foxie walked past him, heading towards the bowls.
