Yes, the Ripley's were disloyal to the Crown and figured in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 intending to kill James I - persona non grata from Alicia's point of view. The McAdam's always prided themselves on being staunch loyalists to the English throne - how this involves Hailey is another matter, but yes, they disliked/disowned Clare because she married a Jew
