Eloim looked around; it was as if he was surrounded by a thick grey fog. Just ahead, he could make out the hazy form of the old woman. Every couple of steps, she would drop another small piece of bread that fell to the floor and softly glowed. Turning to look back the way he had come, he could make out the trail of crumbs as they faded into the murky fog. Turning back, he looked for the old woman but couldn’t see her. For a moment, he began to panic but the voice of Alexia reassured him.
“FOLLOW THE BREAD CRUMBS AND STOP DAWDLING.”
Eloim looked to the floor and began to walk faster and soon he saw the shape of the old woman again, standing waiting for him. As he got closer, she pointed ahead, indicating that he was to keep going. With a last quick look to check the breadcrumbs behind him, Eloim pressed ahead.

Eloim suddenly found himself under a stone bridge, his feet in water that trickled into an ornamental lake. Stepping to one side, he lost a shoe in the thick mud and almost fell backwards. Finally getting out to the grass, he sat down and looked back to the mud that had claimed the shoe.
“ELOIM, WE NEED TO BE CAREFUL WHEN WE RETURN, THE WITCH WASN'T TELLING THE WHOLE TRUTH ABOUT WHAT HER PLANS ARE; I’M NOT SURE IF IT'S SOMETHING ABOUT HER GRANDDAUGHTER OR ABOUT FINDING A SPELL TO RETURN US.” Alexia’s voice said within his head.
“I know, any idea what her plan is? Eloim asked. “She is desperate for her granddaughter to be returned; maybe keeping her close will give us an edge if she makes a move against us.”
“IF SHE DOESN'T HAVE THE SPELL, YOU CAN JUST KILL THEM BOTH.” Alexia said; an edge of excitement in her voice.

Eloim moved down through the shadows under the trees that bordered the ornamental garden in front of the house. The house was in darkness apart from one downstairs room to the right of the doors. As he reached the end of the tree line, he looked over a low hedge at a large gravelled area with a small round lawn in the centre, directly before the house. Seeing no cover to hide his approach, he moved to the side of the house and looked over a wall to see a herb garden on a lower level to the area before the house. Silently, he leapt over the wall and moved down to the corner of the house. Looking up to the third floor window where the girl should be staying, he saw it would be a simple task to climb up the building. Then he could gain access through the window, but first he needed to know where anyone else in the house would be.
“IF YOU WOULD ALLOW ME ACCESS TO YOUR NOSE I COULD TELL YOU WHERE EVERYONE IS.” Alexia’s voice announced.
“What?” Eloim whispered, baffled.
“I’M A DEMON, I CAN SMELL WHERE HUMANS ARE, THE GIRL ISN'T IN THE ROOM YOU WERE TOLD.” Alexia’s voice told him.
“Well where the hell is she then?” Eloim said peering over the wall to view the front of the house.
“THE MIDDLE ROOM ON THE TOP FLOOR,” Alexia’s voice said after a moment of sniffing: “AND SHE HAS COMPANY.”
Eloim wiggled the end of his nose with a hand while scrunching up his face. “Well that felt weird, so who’s the company, a servant?”
“I WOULDN'T THINK SO, BUT SHE'S REALLY ENJOYING HIS COMPANY.” Alexia’s voice announced with a slight chuckle.
“Ohh, erm lets find a way into the house and hope they’re not busy all night so we can grab her when they’re asleep.” Eloim said, embarrassed.
“THE WINDOW TO THE ROOM SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN IS OPEN A CRACK. WE CAN CLIMB IN THERE AND USE THE HALLWAY TO GET TO THE ROOM SHE IS ACTUALLY IN.” Alexia’s voice told him.
“What about the Knights, where are they?” Eloim asked as he moved to the bottom of the wall and noiselessly began to climb.
“THEY'RE ALL DOWNSTAIRS AT THE FAR END OF THE HOUSE, IN THE KITCHEN.” Alexia’s voice told him.

Eloim quickly made it up to the roof and, opening the window wider, climbed in and melted into the shadows of the darkened room. A quick look around revealed that there was a door linking the two rooms so the occupants could visit each other unnoticed by anyone who may be in the hallway outside.
Eloim crouched by the door and waited as the room next-door fell silent. As the breathing of the occupants deepened into sleep, he reached out and twisted the door handle ready to open the door and enter the room.
“SO WHAT'S THE PLAN? HOW ABOUT WE GRAB THE GIRL AND KILL EVERYONE IN THE HOUSE.” Alexia’s voice said eagerly.
“I was thinking: kill the man in here, grab the girl and run for it as fast as I can.” Eloim whispered.
“ELOIM, THIS IS MY CHANCE TO HAVE MY REVENGE. DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THE KNIGHTS OF BLOOD DID TO ME? THEY IMPRISONED ME AND FORCED ME TO DO THEIR BIDDING.” Alexia’s voice said; her anger building as she remembered what had happened.
“I cannot face seven of them on my own, these men have destroyed entire nests of my kind, I doubt if could face one and win before the others arrived.” Eloim hissed, feeling Alexia’s mood change as she began to sulk. Despite the years they had shared together with her trapped within his head, she was still a Demon Empress, used to getting her own way and killing everything in sight.

Eloim waited for her to say something further but when she did not, he carefully opened the door and entered the other room. The two people lay curled together asleep on the bed as Eloim moved to stand over them. Looking down at the couple, he paused to look at the girl. She was in her late teens and very beautiful.
As Eloim admired her, Alexia’s voice cut across his thoughts. “I AM HERE, REMEMBER AND CAN YOU NOT SEE SHE HAS GINGER HAIR? NOW KILL THE MAN AND LET'S GET ON WITH THIS.”
Eloim had the grace to be embarrassed. “Sorry, how can you tell she’s ginger in this light?” he whispered.
“WELL IF YOU STOPPED LOOKING AT HER BODY AND GLANCED AT HER HEAD YOU'D SEE IT TOO. PLUS, LOOK AT THE FRECKLES; SHE'S ALREADY STOLEN A FEW SOULS.” Alexia said in disgust.
“That’s not true about the souls,” Eloim said. “Is it?”
“JUST GET ON WITH WHAT WE'RE HERE TO DO, KILL HIM AND LET'S GRAB HER AND RUN.” Alexia answered urgently.
