MY SECOND MURDER

in #fiction7 years ago

You can call me a monster after my first murder, but I didn't regret doing it. I would pay a million dollars to see the hole I left on the commissioner's forehead. He and Mr. Badmus would have been the only victims if things worked as planned, but life had its own plan too.

While the policemen were looking for me, I was busy planning my attack on Mr. Badmus. My pictures were everywhere. In fact, a whooping sum of two million naira was attached to whoever finds me. I knew I wasn't safe anywhere, so I stayed in the one place they wouldn't look for me. Mr. Badmus' factory was where my father worked, and the place had been deserted since he left. I knew every nook and cranny of the factory. The security guards didn't even see me walk in. There is a secret passage, and I'm sure Mr. Badmus didn't reveal it to them, else they would have guided the place too. As a matter of fact, only he and my dad knew about the passage, which made me wonder if my dad engaged in his bad deeds before he called it quits. The passage led to my dad's office. I knew it was only a matter of time before he visited his factory. I've heard my dad discussed about his visitation once in a week, even at its deserted state. The knife was still my only weapon, and I didn't care about the number of people protecting him.

I hadn't stayed there for two hours before the front door opened. Mr. Badmus' first son and the two guards I saw earlier walked in. My dad's office was made of transparent glasses; I could see everything going on outside, but those outside won't see anything inside. At first, I was scared they noticed my presence because they walked straight to the office. I stayed behind the door and held my knife firmly. I was relieved when I saw Mr. Badmus' son signaling to the guards to stay behind. He opened the office door and walked in alone. I had already hid beside the door. Immediately he closed it, I positioned my knife on his throat. He wouldn't have died if his father loved him dearly, but I'm glad he died knowing his father was a monster.

I threatened to kill him if he didn't call his dad. He was twice my size but he still did everything I asked. I told Mr. Badmus to come to the factory alone if he wanted his son alive, but the man was too stubborn to heed to my warnings. I accused him of killing everyone in my family which he didn't deny. In fact, he laughed and said there was nothing I could do about it. I could see the sadness in his son's face when I was making the call. He didn't even know what was in the box he came to retrieve for his father. I ordered him to open it, and we were both shocked to see cocaines and three guns in it. His dad had told him to deliver it to someone without opening it. He outsmarted me by removing one of the guns. He pointed it at me and hesitated.

"I don't want to kill you," he said. "But you are giving me no choice. I won't let you kill and expose my father."

His hands were trembling and he didn't even held the gun well. I thought he won't shoot, but I was wrong. I tried moving closer, and he fired the trigger before I got to him. Unfortunately for him, the gun wasn't loaded. I stabbed him in the stomach before he could think of anything else. He lied in a pool of his own blood but he was still alive. Meanwhile, the guards had been trying to open the door. They would have succeeded if it wasn't a bulletproofed door. I could see policemen from where I stood. Mr. Badmus broke his promise of coming to the factory alone.

I picked his son's phone and called him again. He picked at the first ring and didn't wait for me to say anything before threatening me. I wondered if he knew I still had his son as hostage. He kept shouting "you will die today", and that infuriated me. I didn't hesitate to slice his son's throat after dropping the call. I made sure I left him something to remember. On his son's chest, I wrote a message for him with my knife. It was just three words, so I'm sure the policemen would know who it was meant for when they see it.

You will die.

I had recorded the phone conversation, and the hard drugs and guns in the box were enough reason to put Mr. Badmus behind bars. I thought I had won the war. I picked one of the guns and found my way out through the secret passage, and there was nobody there when I got out. If Mr. Badmus was present, he might have known where I was and revealed the secret passage to the policemen, but he was too scared and dreadful to save his son.

I walked to the nearby police station and dropped the phone in their mail box. The recorded conversation would be the first thing they see if they open it. I hid somewhere and waited for someone to pick it up. A young policeman came out few minutes later and picked the phone along with other letters in the mail box. He was supposed to take them inside, but he hesitated after seeing the phone. He placed it in his ear and listened to the conversation.

When he was done, he placed the phone in his pocket and dialed a number with his own phone. I didn't know who he called, but I prayed it wasn't who I suspected. Many people would have known how to bring Mr. Badmus down with the proof in the phone, but I was just a seventeen years old with one thing in mind. He must die.

To be continued.
Watch out for my third murder.
