Beady Eyed Vermin

Master Sung immediately steps further into the cellar by proceeding North. He approaches the large pile of barrels and storage bags. "We offered to help... Help we shall... Enlightenment is not found in cowardly acts, but in overcoming one's fears and doing what is to be done..."

Sabastine smiles when he recalls the memory of how the dark elf pilched a few gold coins from the tavern keeper. He probably didn't notice her, and she probably hadn't thought she was noticed. Upon hearing the comments of the monk he turns and faces Master Sung. "Silly man, didn't your time on your knees in the monastery teach you better manners?" Smiling Sabastine steps ahead of the company, off the narrow stairs and deeper into the cellar to the North. Whistling and calling out "Come out, come out, where ever you are..."

Aiyana's ability to see in low light enables her to see something scurrying in the same corner that the dripping was coming from. Upon further inspection, she noticed some crumbs of food atop a couple of the large barrels and on the floor near the same barrels. Since the food storage bags were stacked on top of the barrels, she moves toward them to see if the rats were nesting amongst the bags.

As Aiyana started to move the food bags, a dark gnarled hand reaches out. Covered in a patch of black fur, matted with years of grime, rot, and sewer water - the claws of the beady-eyed vermin slash at Aiyana's arm. The encounter with the Giant Rat interrupts Aiyana's thought that it might be wise to bring some food with them on the upcoming adventure.

At the sound of the scuffle at the pile of stored goods, two more Giant Rats run from the dark corners of the dank cellar. Blackbird McAllister takes notice of one slimy rat before it has a chance to jump at his leg for an attack. Blackbird draws his dagger and plants it squarely between the rodent's shoulder blades.

Ser Boros is caught off guard by the second rat as it springs from the top of a barrel. The overgrown mouse sails past Master Sung, and onto the knight's shoulder. Planting his sharp and dirty teeth into the knight's shoulder seems to bring a twinkle to the little guy's eye.

Benziken, Sabastine, and Akasha are shocked to see these creatures appear on the scene so unexpectedly! The three take a moment to compose themselves and regroup to help the rest of the party. As they begin to take up position, three more figures step from the shadows. Sabastine almost groans aloud at the thought of greater foes to put down.

In the low light filtered through the thick floor boards - Wilhelm von Drepfelt, the male human knight - and Piker Big Coin, the male gnome rouge/merchant - and Khan McDoo, the male human warrior - become slightly visible. The two figures approach the party.

It would appear Drad Silor was so eager to dispatch with these rats that Master Sung and company were not the first travelers sent into the breach.

As the party descends into the darkness of the tavern cellar the noise and bustle of the crowd above fades away. The thick planking above your head muffles all sounds to murmers. The only sound in this dank and stale storage area is a constant dripping toward the back corner of the cellar, and the song of cave crickets escaping spiders.

Large barrels of ale line the walls and are piled in the center of the large tavern cellar. Tossed atop the sealed barrels are large canvas storage bags filled with various tavern foods.

Three Giant Rats have been revealed in the pile of barrels and storage bags. You see little more here than a few tiny spiders and cave crickets jumping about.

Notes From The Game:
Who's Turn Is It? In many role playing games initiative is determined by rolling dice to find the highest scoring player and allowing them the first move in an encounter. Realms of Adventures is a bit different. Initiative, or first move, is determined by who submits a turn first. Get your turns in early, and you get first swipe at the creatures, first grab at the gold, and first opportunity to be impaled on a bed of spikes at the bottom of a pit! Oh well, it can't all be fun and rewards... Can it?
