The Best Christmas Gift is Time

It was December 24th and people on the streets were doing their last shopping. Lights and music were flooding the avenues and shopping malls. Julia had wished that she was not at that hour of the night looking for part of the Christmas dinner she had ordered from one of the best cooks in the city, but the meeting she had at the end of the afternoon had changed her plans. So as she left the office, tired and stressed, she drove down the busy avenues.

When she arrived at Patricia's house, the cook, she called her on her cell phone and told her she was going to get her order. Patricia immediately drove down the stairs carrying boxes and trays full of succulent food. Almost without speaking, Julia only said a brief greeting; then she took the order and rushed home with her 7-year-old son, Andrew, who was waiting for her. When she parked the vehicle, she leaned back a little from the seat and closed her eyes. She remembered going to the toy store and buying the new video game her son wanted, but not wrapping it in gift wrap. Before dinner, she would go to the craft rack and wrap it up. He sighed, fixed his jacket, and got out of the car.

Inside the apartment, he saw the elegant Christmas decoration his secretary had made for him the day before. Thank God he had an efficient secretary, because Julia had always been clumsy with crafts and uncreative. When she entered the kitchen, she put what she had in her hands on the table covered with a large white tablecloth. She called Andrew once, twice, three times. There was no answer. She got a little scared and ran to the child's room. When he opened the door, he found him there, asleep and with the television on. He went over and stroked the boy's head. She felt guilty for having left the child alone for so long, but said to herself: It is for his own good. I want to give him everything he needs and wants, and for that I must work.

Julia kissed the child's cheek and the child woke up. When he saw his mother, Andrew's face lit up. I'm glad you came, Mom! -he said with a smile and full of joy. Julia," he said, hugging him: "Of course I'll come, you fool! Julia could not help noticing that the boy was shaking and a little scared, she asked him: Is something wrong with you? Andrew, with his face in his mother's arms, said, "I was afraid you wouldn't come. Julia felt her heart grow smaller, where had this fear come from for the boy and what was worse, where had the fear come from for her too, of not finding her son when he arrived. She held him tightly and went to bed with him. That day, December 24th, Julia went to bed with her son, hugging him tightly and filling him with kisses. The well-decorated and deliciously prepared food was forgotten near the beautiful Christmas ornament.

Beautiful story. If only people understood that basic principles. Ideally, the combination of love and resources would make life perfect, but those two things rarely combine.
It is very common to see these days to see glamorous displays of abundance covering loneliness and unhappiness.

That's right, @hlezama. Sometimes happiness has nothing to do with what you have, but with what you give. Merry Christmas
