Steemit Challenge S26-w3 : The Boss's Challenge

There was a heavy stillness at the end of the meeting but Johns thoughts were still louder than ever. He gave Timothy a quick look. Just six weeks. This is serious business. Unusually composed Timothy leaned back in his chair. John now is not the time to panic. Now is the moment to reflect. They returned to their desks closed the door and started their first private discussion. John turned to the whiteboard and picked up a marker. Alright let's dissect it. An app for a car rental company is what the boss wants. Features include peak and off-peak hour computations real time demand pricing and revenue-preserving promotional offers. Timothy gave a nod. It's challenging. But it's interesting because it's challenging.

They enumerated potential difficulties: Demand based pricing. An algorithm that could read real time information from user reservations was required. Peak hour tracking: The system needs to anticipate peak times before they occur. Promotional offers: The app needs to provide savings without sacrificing profitability. Who are going to be our engineers now? John inquired. Timothy produced a notepad. Maya for designing algorithms." She is a mathematical prodigy. The user interface is Adeel. He has a customer's perspective. Ali for the backend as well. He is dependable quick and never gives up. That is the team of our dreams.

The boss received the names by evening. Within ten minutes approval was received: Good choices. Now move. The Scheme The squad got together the following morning. John was the first to speak. Friends pay attention. This isn't your typical job. The business is entrusting us with a novel idea. We create opportunities for larger initiatives if we are successful. If we don't succeed well we can't fail. So where do we start? Maya inquired. Timothy grinned. "With creativity. Consider yourself a client. You launch the application.

At this moment you desire a car. The price that the system displays to you must be both reasonable and profitable for the agency. Our backbone is that. The group assigned roles to each other: Create the demand-based algorithm in Maya. Adeel design an interface that's easy enough for kids to use. Ali: use real-time servers to connect everything. John: coordinate and monitor progress. Timothy: address issues test concepts and maintain team spirit.

It was a smooth first week. Staying up late Maya drew intricate calculations on paper and then programmed them into simulations. Adeel drew simple menus crisp screens and glowing buttons. Like a technician repairing a car in the dark Ali constructed the server framework. However issues started to arise by the second week. Maya acknowledged The algorithm is too aggressive. It drives up costs excessively during peak hours. Consumers will flee. John scowled. We cannot frighten people away. How about adding a soft cap? Timothy leaped in. Indeed! a limit at which the price increases but stays below a specific threshold. Consumers will think it's reasonable.

Ali faced his own nightmare. The servers can’t handle too many users at once. It keeps crashing.

Adeel sighed. And if it crashes no one will care about my beautiful design.

John paced the room. We can’t lose time. Ali can you add a backup server system? If one crashes the other wakes up immediately.

Ali rubbed his eyes but smiled. It will take two long nights but I’ll do it.”

The Turning Point is Another surprise arrived in week four. The supervisor called. Our client made an additional request. To encourage repeat business the app ought to recommend less expensive times to rent. John nearly dropped the phone. What? In the midst of the undertaking? Timothy said Avoid arguing. Difficulties sharpen us. After brainstorming the group produced a tiny AI suggestion tool. The app whispered Wait two hours and save 15% to customers who searched during busy hours. In testing customers adored the concept.

They showed the boss the software six weeks later. The new AI tool made intelligent recommendations the design was user-friendly the servers operated without hiccups and the system made gentle price adjustments. By scheduling a car during rush hour the boss put it to the test personally. The software stated "If you book tomorrow morning you save 20% despite the exorbitant price. The boss looked impressed and raised his eyebrows. He declared This is more than just an app. This is the model of the future for all rental companies John reclined with a look of relief on his face. Timothy just grinned composed as always. Suddenly what had begun as a problem became their greatest success.

Feedback

  • Your story has pace elements of fiction and demand of the prompt but a little more drama could make it perfect.

  • What confused me was the line, "If you book tomorrow morning you save 20% despite the exorbitant price." Why would I book a cab tomorrow If I need a cab now?" Maybe I didn't get the point properly.
