STACKIN' -N- PACKIN' #FFF

in #fff5 years ago

Happy Friday to all my foodie friends, here at #foodfightfriday.

So let's get to it, what do ya say? Ready to make a mess and fling some food around. I have often thought about having an actual food flingin' fight with @thebigsweed, I thought he would look good with a nice fettuccini alfredo on his head, could be a nice lookin wig for him. hehe

So let's talk about my title...it's really very simple. Several years ago our son @ryan313 got us involved with #bitcoin, #altcoins. He also warned us about how bad the banking system was and still is by the way. Better to trust hard physical assets, gold, silver, natural resources, like land, water sources and your own food production.
Our son has been predicting the collapse of fiat, the collapse of the whole system actually for quite some time.

So we have been trying to cover all the bases ever since. Hence, we be stackin' the coins. The PACKING part of the title was not so deep, if we be eating those pastries, surely we be packin' on the LBS.

So how's this giant head for some food source!

I think it looks like a huge brain, a little lighter in color, but well convoluted.

The tomatoes are still exploding in the #garden, as well as the cukes. Time to make a nice salad.

With another pile of tomatoes just picked, I thought some homemade salsa was in order.
Here's the ingredients:
3 cups of tomatoes diced
1/2 cup red pepper chopped
1 cup of sweet red onion diced
2 tbsps. lime juice squeezed
4 teaspoons fresh jalapeno sliced and diced very small
1/2 teaspoon cumin sprinkled
1/4 cup fresh cilantro
Unfortunately, there was no more cilantro left in the garden, I went with dried. I had to look up the conversion of fresh compared to dried. Found out you use 1/2 to 1/3 the amount when going from fresh to dried. Good thing we looked it up, I thought it was just the opposite, I would have blown all the slicing and dicing. Whew, close call.

Lots of chopping and dicing.

Made some fresh pesto also, since I would be serving the salsa with a toasted, with garlic French baguette, a little shmeer of the green stuff can only sweeten the flavor.

While still chopping, slicing and dicing, the seeds from all this beautiful produce would need to be collected for next year.
Thinking about starting my own seed bank, gotta look into how to preserve the seeds long term, but that's another day here on the #homestead. As @ryan313 keeps us informed, we continue to BE PREPARED.

We are eating good in the neighborhood.

Cubed up some fresh mango too, boy, nice added sweet taste to top them off.

Many thanks to our special food fighters, @jlsplatts, @idig and @dandays for keeping us coming back for a fun-filled, fight all about #food...and other stuff too!

Happy weekend to all!

What a beauty that Cauliflower is! I just love that last platter of yours with the garlicky Baguette toasties and the fresh pesto plus everything else looks really yum! My hubby's just starting with a new veggie garden, will write about that one of these days. Only thing is we have monkeys to worry about so will have to do something so they can't get to the veggies; there's nothing like growing one's own fresh produce not so!

Good morning @lizelle, That was the biggest cauliflower I have ever seen. I already made a big platter of roasted cauliflower with just a sprinkle of parmesan cheese, so good. Then we blanched the rest of it and got it in the freezer. But the fresh salsa with the pesto on the toast was really awesome, such a flavor explosion in your mouth...bam! I wish you the best with the new garden. It's funny for me to hear of monkeys stealing your veggies, here in Upstate NY USA, it's the deer we have to keep out. We spray the plants with an egg and milk mixture that actually works to keep them away.
Great to hear from you, have a wonderful weekend.

The monkeys are a real problem in the suburbs but us humans are also to blame for that as more and more of their natural habitat is being taken over by housing! They do provide lots of entertainment with their antics, they can be so funny:) For us it would be a treat seeing the deer but they must also be a problem not so!
We're having lovely sunny weather, can feel summer is on the way, enjoy your weekend too @farm-mom!

As someone who regularly eats cauliflower, that's the biggest one I've seen so far!

Hello there @macchiata, I was away this weekend, sorry for the delayed response. BUT oh yeah biggest one we have ever grown. I guess the weather conditions and soil ph was just right this year. It was de-lish. Had plenty to blanch and freeze also.
Thanks for stopping by, nice to meet you!

You're blessed ! I would love to find a big cauliflower like that here :)

That's a nice cauliflower!
My tomatoes are just about done here except for the stragglers. I suppose I'll still have green tomatoes when the frost hits. Not unusual...

Good morning @amberyooper, yeah after this week's harvest, we are getting down to it also. I don't have many green ones this year, most of ours have been able to ripen on the vine. But we both know it won't be long before the cold nights get their grip on us.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Thanks so much glad you liked my post.

Yeah, I really enjoyed your post! ;-)

Now that is why you do most of the cooking at the farm, delicious.
I did chop the heck out of those veggies. 😊

Ya did good RON !
