I didn’t have a contender for this food fight about an hour ago when Pura Vida and I took off to the lavanderia to do our laundry. We waited outside the laundry joint for about 20 minutes for someone to open the door. Around here, just because the sign says Abierto, doesn’t mean they’re open. _{We waited...}

A few doors down from the lavanderia was a sandwich shop, the chalkboard menu’s were in English and the three young people working inside all spoke English. That’s significant—I’ll explain. Ordering food in Costa Rica is super challenging when your wife doesn’t eat butter or sugar of any kind, neither of you speak the language well and all of the menus are in Spanish. That wasn’t the case at this sandwich joint so we decided to grab something and wait outside for the lavanderia attendant. @puravidaville ordered a green juice and I ordered The V Sandwich without goat cheese. _{We waited...}

The V without goat cheese: Red and yellow onions, eggplant, tomatoes, mushrooms, a couple of different bell peppers, and a pesto aioli garlic spread on toasted flat bread. It came with a side potato salad but our unexpected lunch guest didn’t care for it. _{We waited...}

I didn’t anticipate this contender lasting much longer than the cover image, @puravidaville and I actually need to get our laundry done and we planned on doing laundry first, food fight second but there we go again—thinking like Westerners. See the potato salad on the plate? Well, I wasn’t too interested in it and that’s about the time this dude showed.... wait—not yet! I’ll introduce you to our unexpected lunch guest after I show you the menu—in English. The sandwich is The V—I got it without goat cheese and instead of balsamic cream I got a pesto aioli garlic spread that was really good. _{We waited...}

So, I didn’t really care for the potatoes and that was about the time this dude showed up—our unexpected lunch guest: _{We waited...}

He had on a red necklace but no name tag so for the sake of this article, we’ll just call him by his initials—ULG (Unexpected Lunch Guest). I gave Ulg some potatoes and he licked all of the green, seasoned stuff off of them but left the potatoes on the walkway—I cleaned up Ulg’s mess before we left. _{We waited...}

I didn’t want to leave Ulg hungry so I tore some of the flat bread into little dog bites and fed it to him. Ulg wasn’t too fond of the potatoes but, the bread, that was a different story. Ulg loved that oiled soaked, toasted flat bread. _{We waited...}

The lavanderia attendant never showed up and Pura Vida’s stomach wasn’t enjoying waiting any longer on only a green smoothie. We decided to go back to the apartment so she could whip up something for herself to eat and we’ll try for laundry another day. Ulg didn’t really care about Pura Vida’s appetite or the lavanderia attendant, he ate his bread and laid down on the walkway I just cleaned for him. _{We waited...}

“Hey, Ulg... seeing how you’re the star of this Food Fight Friday contender, could you at least clean the bread out of your teeth and maybe give a nice smile to the camera?”.... “Good boy, Ulg.”_{we’ll try again tomorrow...}
