Many would have seen Heena art on hand and legs, however I doubt anyone would have seen water colour applied on legs and foots.

It was common sight today, women, girls and ladies colouring their legs with water colour. Such colour leaves a strong imprint on the legs especially on foots. All of women does that while celebrating the festival commonly known as "Navratra" 9 days of worshipping Maa Durga. Today brought the end of 9 days festival in India.

This is red colour which only used on festivals. This is a way of beautifying your legs. All females love doing lot of make up and this is part of it.

"Navratra" is considered as the most auspicious days in Hindu religion. Nine days of continous festival where men and women worship Mother "Durga". Navaratri = Nine (nava)+ Ratri (nights) is a Hindu festival that spans nine nights and is celebrated every year in the autumn.

The festival is also known as "Durga Puja" which is a major festival in eastern region especially in Kolkata. Nine day of fun , enjoyment and celebration that is the atmosphere throughout every corner of the region. Be it kids, old, or young everyone is devoted towards worshipping "Maa Durga" The 9 days marks the presence of Durga , and people celebrate them by making many makeshift tents and pandals with statue of Goddess Durga placed within and worshipped for 9 days.

Durga Puja celebrates the victory of the goddess Durga over the demon king Mahishasura. It begins on the same day as Navratri, a nine-night festival celebrating the divine feminine. Durga Puja's first day is Mahalaya, which heralds the advent of the goddess. Celebrations and worship begin on Sasthi, the sixth day. During the following three days, the goddess is worshipped in her various forms as Durga,Lakshmi,and Saraswati.

It is believed that, on Ninth day of the Navratri, Durga started the final assault on the demon and get triumphant. Ninth day holds a quite importance and many people celebrate in different style.

As the festival is celebrated for Nine day, many people keep fasting for all nine day. They abstain from any grains and salt intake and mostly relies on fruit diet. 9 Days of fasting without salt that is quite an achievement. Having dependant on fruit, milk only. Still they remain active and manages all their routine work including their official work.

A unique way of getting over the fasting is to worship 9 girls childs. Kids were assumed as the incarnation of maa Durga. They were feeded with some Puri, Halwa before eating.

Such is the devotion of the people towards Maa Durga, who assumed to fulfill all wishes and make life prosper for everyone.

In temples and pandals around 108 lamps were lit to set off the end of 9 days of festival.

This year too it came to an end. Tomorrow is the final day which is called as Dashmi (Tenth day) where all the idols were immersed in water to say adieu to Maa Durga. Maa stands for mother and calling all goddess with Maa signifies the respect and importance it holds in everyone life.
