It was a Foggy Evening

We learn something new everyday. Yesterday, I learned a lesson on fog. Fog is the result of a typical contrast from cold water and hot air.

In Benalmadena, or rather on Costa del Sol, in the evening, when the sea cools the hot air of the day, fogs are quite a normal occurrence. And depending on the wind direction, it either comes inland or stays out at sea.

The sun has just set behind the little tower on top of the apartment on the right. For some reason, I decided to take a picture of the lovely scene – serene, peaceful and clear blue sky. This was just after dinner – at about 9.30 pm.

At 10 pm, I thought I would take another picture of the same scene as the street lights were coming on.

Shortly afterwards, my friend point out that a fog is coming in – and rapidly too. I watched – entranced. With the street lights shining on them, I could see the movement of the fog clearly. In a couple of minutes, the fog completely shrouded the place. I saw people moving like ghosts in the fog. It was quite a phenomenon to see. It looked surreal and a bit scary, like a scene right out of the movie The Fog.

I wished I had the whole scene on video. It was my first experience and I didn’t think the fog would move so quickly. But if it happens again, I am ready.
