My shots for this post are simply seagulls at a local beach, starting with this one standing on the pier over looking the water and probably looking for fish in the water for food.

From what I have seen and heard there are a couple of essentials for getting great bird shots, namely, a good long lens so you can capture them from a good distance.
and secondly, a lot of patience to find a spot where you know the birds are or may be, and stand still and somewhat hidden if possible and wait patiently for a bird to come by and be ion the right spot for your shot.

And those are two reasons why you do not see too many bird shots from me, I do have one lens that goes up to 240mm, which is probably enough to get some good bird shots, but I do hope to get a longer lens at sometime.

But the second reason is what really restricts me from getting good bird shots, I may have some ( this may be debatable) good traits, but patience is not one of them, I struggle to stand or sit still in any spot longer than a few seconds unless I count sleeping but sleeping and photography don't go well together LOL.

I have tried once when I had heard of some eagles in the area, heading to a spot where I had heard they had a nest, and waiting patiently for them to return as I saw them flying far off in the distance.
I waited what I thought was very patiently standing quietly in a good spot, but after a while, but then I started to get itchy feet to get moving, so I looked at my watch and realized I had been there less than 5 Minutes, when it felt like I had been standing there for half an hour. I tried to be patient and wait longer, but it just didn't work and a few minutes later I was off walking around the neighborhood.

And needless to say, I didn't get any good shots of the eagle.

The funny or frustrating thing is a friend on facebook, went there probably within half an hour of when I was there and got some awesome shots of the eagles by waiting patiently for a lot longer than I did.

You know what @tattoodjay? Gulls are one of my favourites. Their plaintive cry and adaptability always make me love them. And to hear their sound is always soothing for me, having grown up on, around, or near the water.

Even where I stay in SE England in the countryside, though we are inland more (which is nice for Winter temperatures) the gulls still populate the fields and make their lovely noise.

I love a gull, so well done!

I love being by the water and Seagulls are part of that experience so I to love gulls, living in the country side is always where i want to live but not quite an option for me right now

Thanks so much for posting in #featheredfriday! I want you to know that seagulls count just as much as eagles! upvoted & resteemed Have a great weekend :-)

MY pleasure to join this cool challenge I loved looking through some of the entries and it motivates me when it gets warmer to try and get more bird shots

You have a 200mm plus lens I think? You really just need to sit down somewhere and wait... I know you mentioned needing patience. It's a bit like fishing. Just need to wait. (That's easy for me to say because I'm retired, and I know you're working!)

Yes I know the 240 Lens should be good enough its really just so I have two excuses, the real problem is my hyperactivity, I have never been one for sitting still long, but it is something i have to work on,

and hence it is may come as no surpise I am also not into fishing LOL

For an impatient guy, you got some great shots here JJ. Blessings!

Well with seagulls are easy they do not care how close you get to them :)

As always, an impressive photo. Greetings.

Thanks kindly I appreciate your support

Seagulls are so great about posing for photos! Just the kind of bird that you need, my impatient friend! I often go out and sit on my deck and read for a couple hours so that the birds get used to me being there. Then I can put the book down and they're all around me and I can get a few shots.

When I was young I used to read a lot, nowadays I read mostly on my tablet on a train, and actually thinking about it when I read when I was younger it was at night when it was dark, during the day I was still hyper and yes impatient then LOL

I only ever read on my Kindle these days. Calling it a book is just an old habit, I guess.

I know what you mean but strictly speaking it is still a book :)

That’s a grand looking seagull, Jay. I like how the seagull stands out in the 1st photo.

Thanks at least Seagulls do not care in the least about us humans so stay still and let us get shots of them
