A 3-Day 80-Hour Water Fast: After 24 HourssteemCreated with Sketch.

I know that 3 days is equal to 72 hours, but if one starts on an evening then on the third night one may as well extend it by one last night of sleep and break the fast the following morning. Hence the 80 hours.

Valter Longo is one of the authors of the two research papers highlighted in my first post. In this video, he rattles through some of the key findings plus his later research on a fast mimicking diet (FMD), that is, a short-term diet that fools the body into thinking it is fasting. This is designed to achieve the benefits of fasting while reducing some of the dangers.

There is also a Valter Longo Foundation and the inevitable 5-day FMD product.

As with all complicated diets that require careful selection of ingredients and measuring portions, the research is out there and published so that one can design one's own FMD-mimicking foods. The first interesting article I came across that did this was Fasting Mimicking Diet Do-It-Yourself Guide.

It does, however, strike me that it is much simpler to just do the fasting! That does not mean eating crap the rest of the time.

So how's the fasting going? OK! No headaches, no nausea, plenty of water. It really is a mental thing, having decided to undergo the experiment there would have to be some drastic physical reason to terminate it early. Hence, I spend my time doing some further research.

Glad to hear that it's going good. No headaches or nausea is a good thing. You are right about it all being a mental challenge. It's really just breaking a series of habits. You're doing good if you made it this far, Keep it up!

Thanks for the support! Am writing a new post now - almost 48 hours gone.

Yeah, but eating is a rather useful habit. However, the biochemical systems are interesting :-) and as a tangent been finding out why weight-loss diets rarely work in the long term.
