Making a dress

in #fashion7 years ago

Hello steemians,

It's your girl again, the fashionista and today I will be teaching you guys how to cut a dress.

You start by taking you measurements. The full length of the cloth, the shoulder length, the round bust, the round waist or Tommy, round hip, Hip length (take from shoulder to where the hip is bulging out), half length (from the shoulder to the belly button). Since we are folding the fabric into four I usually advice that division of measurements should be done immediately to avoid confusion. Mind you not all measurements are divide into four. The shoulder is divided into two, the round bust, round hip and round waist are the once that are divided into four.

You start by folding ur clothes into four using the highest measurement which is usually the round hip, you divide it by 4 and add extra 3 inches allowance plus whatever u got from ur into 4 division. Then add a little excess for the zip allowance

Then you take out the full length the person wants but for this particular person she wanted the whole length of the fabric.

Then after I marked the shoulder, after that u mark your armhole. The arm hole is the armpit area where u attach the hand of the cloth. It varies with sizes, it can be 3 inches in length for a baby. Then u can increase depending on the person's size.

Then you join the line that is the shoulder to the length of the armhole.

After that u take ur neck out of the shoulder length bcoz the neck is in between the two shoulders opposite the armhole.

After the neck, u measure 3 or 4 like I said earlier depends on the person's size, under the armhole. Right on that spot, you take your round bust measurement.

Then u mark ur half length, half length is usually from the shoulder to the belly button. Right on that point u take ur round Tommy length or round waist length.

After that You measure ur hip length, Right on that spot u take ur round hip already divided by four plus the 3 inches extra. Do not forget that in all the measurements that I said has to be divided.

After then u join the lines and make a little bend towards the down part of the dress.

After this, you cut out.

Right after this you then take your dart usual from the middle of the cloth u measure 4inches to the left, then to the right. For me I fold the fabric into 2 halves to make it easy. The dart gives the clothes more fitting.

That brings us to then end. I then join the pieces together with my sowing machine.

I hope I have been able to impact one or two things.
