The intensity and longevity of a perfume depends on the concentration, intensity and longevity of the essence, aromatic compounds or perfume oils it is made of.
However, each perfume house or line uses its own terms to classify their perfumes according to the concentration.
Basically, this should be the guide to your perfume purchase or choice onwards.

Perfume
Also known as perfume extract, extrait or pure perfume. It has a high concentration of essence (about 40% by volume) which makes it the most beautiful and expensive of any fragrance. It is also the longest lasting of all scent categories as it averages 25% concentration of essence and can be applied directly to the skin, especially on pulse spots like the wrists.
Perfume’s longevity accounts for the sizes in which it is sold and only a tiny amount is needed to get your body/fabric scented.
Truly, the best things/gifts come in small packages. #lol

Espirit de Perfume
This is less common but it is an intermediate concentration of essence to perfume and the next in the order.

Eau de Perfume
Sometimes this is called “millesime”. It contains about 15% - 20% concentration of oils, less intense than perfume and may get fabrics stained and for this reason, one has to be careful with the type and colour of fabrics they are applied on.
Eau de Perfume is relatively cheaper and less intense than extrait but lasts longer than the next down the pecking order.
Surely, if you are the classy type but not able to make ends meet to match your class, then you should consider this category fragrance.

Eau de Toilette

One of the commonest forms in which fragrance is sold. It contains a relatively low concentration of essence (about 10%), which makes it fade away quickly but actually refreshing on applying.
If your refreshing perfume evaporates quickly, then you might just be using this category of fragrance. You don’t have to be shy if it is Eau de Toilette. At least it is reassuring that it’s not the last or least category. #lol

Eau de Cologne
Often called “cologne” and boasts about 3% - 8% of essence. More refreshing in hot weather and doesn’t last long. Thus reapplying is not a bad idea. Cologne comes in large sizes and is the least expensive. It can be applied directly to the skin and mostly applied by spraying.
Subsequently, buying and wearing your fragrance from any perfume house would be more fun as you have a better knowledge of what to go for.
