8 lbs of Organic Scraps

in #fashion6 years ago (edited)

I came home yesterday to a big box sitting on the doorstep! It was a real treat to the eyes to open it up and see the many colors and textures of the scraps ♡ I had to wait til morning to get some good photos, but they are too beautiful to not share...Just look at all those hues!

Bamboo fleece & bamboo french terry are among the textiles included in the box. I will not personally be buying or working with bamboo apart from these scraps. Although the textures are luxurious and often marketed as eco-friendly, my research has led me to believe that there can still be chemicals involved in processing the fiber. [Edit: I've found there are indeed some reputable sources for bamboo who do not process the textile with chemicals.] Hence why I will be sticking to hemp blends in most of my work, but I have no problem playing around with and using up other creator's scraps. There are plenty of hemp blend scraps included in this batch too, including one of my favorites, hemp sweater knit.

Greens pulling at my heart strings...

I will definitely be putting this green velvet to good use! The waffle knit below it, too!

So many possibilities with this stuff! I get flooded with inspiration just going through all of it.

There you have it! 8 pounds of organic fabric scraps! The most she's ever sent is fifty or sixty pounds though. That's a lot! Each time I have ever ordered from this sweet soul has been an absolute pleasure. In my mind no one can hold a candle to her customer service or the amount of love she pours into everything she does. I actually met her in person last year at the Oregon Eclipse Gathering. To say it was a special experience, to meet the woman who created over 10 pieces in my wardrobe, is quite an understatement. Even as I type this I'm wearing one of her organic handcrafted garments :-) She's essentially creating a no-waste company by allowing her scraps to be put to good use. I'm so excited to get started on piecing things together. Time to get to work! Endless love light and gratitude to YOU for looking!

This is awesome and we really look forward to seeing what you produce with all of that scrap. You must be very advanced in upcycling and must have learned a lot about the impacts of the textile industry on the environment and i guess that is why you work mostly with hemp. Its a very long journey here in Cameroon and Africa and i believe someday we shall just switch to eco-friendly fashion clothes and this explains why we have started doing the work we do.
Through our work, we hope to gradually educate people about the impacts of the textile industry on the environment and ecourage them to switch to eco-friendly fashion

So cool! I had no idea you were into sewing/designing your own clothes! I have been putting my crafts off for too long now. Thanks for the inspiration to get back to it.

Thanks for looking and for your comment Bria! I began my sewing journey not too long ago. Would love to see what you make if you do decide to get back to it. ♡

I'm from Oregon. Anything organic is great in my book hehe. Good work. Nice photos.

hey @joeyarnoldvn, I am also in Oregon. Portland to be exact. Always a pleasure meeting a fellow Oregonian! Thanks for your comment, I completely agree. Organic is and always will be the way to go. Blessings brother.

Awesome, @Hempress, you inspire me. Your avatar is magical.
