How to use @familyprotection funds? Response to @markwhittam 's call out for ideas Pt.2

in #familyprotection6 years ago

This is my second response to @markwhittam 's call out for ideas and suggestions for how to progress the @familyprotection cause, and how to use the funds that have been generated via this Steemit collaboration. The Current approach is centered on case studies that many people have shared using the familyprotection tag, and to date has accumulated an incredible array of both first and second hand stories. In my last post I gave several suggestions that were no doubt potentially helpful and would certainly bring about awareness and potentially bring this issue to the eyes of those in power who may or may not know of the actual situation.

Anyone who has read these will now be aware of the scale and depth of the problems, that seem to extend from the lowest to the highest echelons of power. We have heard stories that highlight both incompetence as well as intentional abuse and in all its forms. The question of what the best course of action is, and how to use this information is very important because it will determine how effective this mission is. With this in mind I would like to add one further suggestion that I believe is crucial to the overall success and outreach of this endeavour.

When we read cases studies, whether they be first hand or via the mainstream media, we can get a sense of the problem. As these stories pile up and we see commonalities such as sexual abuse, wrongful removal of children from very capable families who simply have different values and priorities to the normal, we gain an awareness that something is not right. It is Obvious! However, anyone who is a skeptic or unable to take action without more concrete evidence may not be swayed even by this overwhelming number of cases studies. It is very easy to doubt, especially when reading one persons side of a story. When a judge or person in power is faced with opposing stories from their 'trusted' staff versus a parent who is deemed to be unfit, these stories may not carry the weight needed to enforce change and justice.

What we need is to see, hear, and know without a shadow of a doubt exactly how the removal process happens, and the way in which enforcement is happening. Sometimes we need to really see the process happen to fully appreciate the injustices that are happening, as well to impartially see both parties actions and reactions. There is only one way to do this, and it is very easy and very effective! These days we can buy security cameras that are disguised at light-bulbs, alarm clocks, and just about anything at extremely low costs. I personally have one at home that costs just $30 and is installed in my home in a spot that no one would notice. This camera even has night vision, audio and is linked to WIFI and even cloud services if desired. That means that even if someone discovered this camera and destroyed it, the video footage would be safe, stored on line on cloud servers.

What could be more compelling than to see the tone, attitude, and even illegal behaviors by CPS staff when visiting a home. I can't think of anything more hard hitting then to see and hear this happen first hand, so that there can be NO doubt, no argument, and no lies about the events that have led up to a child being removed. By exposing the activities like this, we can have solid and indisputable evidence that would gain much more support than a one sided case study or personal story. This is particularly so when cases do go to court and a judge can see and hear for themselves the truth. This evidence goes above and beyond any first hand accounts, since they will always be disputed by CPS, and that places a judge in a very difficult position. Without solid proof, how can a judge make a difficult ruling against 'respected' government agents?!

So how could this idea be implemented? I think using familyprotection funds to buy cameras for distribution would be an amazing use of the money. I would target areas that are known to have the worst problems and give them to the most vulnerable families who are calling for help because they see injustices happening. If someone Thinks that they are at risk of having a child removed, we need to get them protected and monitored. Once an event has occurred these videos should be uploaded to both You-Tube for exposure AND d.tube for the indefinite survival of the footage. All of that is free, the only cost is a relatively small amount for cameras. They can also be shared and passed on to other families in the area when needed to maximize the effectiveness and investment potential in the equipment.

I would also suggest NOT make any announcements or advertise the fact that a particular home has these cameras as we want to catch these people off guard. As far as I know, people have EVERY right to monitor their own private space without need to inform anyone of this. Perhaps someone who knows the law can confirm this! On the other hand if a family doesn't have a camera and is unable to acquire one I would recommend falsely advertising that they DO have one in very prominent locations of a home (on the front door!). This may deter CPS officials from overstepping their authority as they believe they are being monitored and will no doubt be more careful in their approach.

To give you an idea of what some of these cameras look like here are a few that I have seen on the market. As you can see, it would be pretty unlikely that anyone would spot them or know what they are.

SMOKE ALARM CAMERA

ALARM CLOCK CAMERA

CALCULATOR CAMERA

WALL PLUG SOCKET CAMERA

WALL CLOCK CAMERA

STONE CAMERA!

LIGHT BULB CAMERA

WATER BOTTLE CAMERA!

Well, I think you get the idea! There are SO many options and products that are really very cheap, and would NEVER be detected. Technology has come a long way lately, and the quality of these cameras is more than sufficient to get the message across! I honestly cannot think of a better way to capture the stories as they happen with the least effort and investment. Can you imagine if we had hours of footage of the same CPS officials performing their duties in an abusive manner? There would be no way to ignore that, and I believe it would put some power back with the families and offer some protection against some of the worst cases of abuse and misconduct. To see the WAY in which cases are handled, and to HEAR threats and verbal abuse is powerful.. way more effective than reading these words on a page.

I hope this idea helps to move this campaign forward, and that @markwhittam and @canadian-coconut can see the value of this idea because it may be an important thing we can do to raise awareness of the injustices and atrocities that are happening on a daily basis. I would start this approach by targeting the worst areas that have reports of specific CPS staff acting in the worst ways, so that we can tackle the most serious of issues first and move on from there.

Sort:

one of the worst aspects of this is that most of those involved within CPS/CAS agencies THINK that this is the way things have to be done and that they are working for a good cause. I spent over 10 years helping families deal with unbelievable bias and outright personal programming from CPS/CAS workers, for things like breastfeeding, co-sleeping, homeschooling etc... This shit has GOT to STOP!!

she seems to think everything is fine! ;_) U ARE the unfucker too!

You are correct to call it a "Shit"!!. Please could you dedicate some time and write about your experience helping these families and the outright programming of these case workers?. If you ever decide to, please don't forget to use the family protection tag. Thanks alot

Great idea and then CPS people should start wearing cameras too, like those cops with body cams.
While it seems to be legal to film whatever you want in your own private home, the judge could still dismiss video evidence on grounds of some violation of personality rights or whatever of the CPS personel.
While I think it´s worth a try with them cameras, if only to be disruptive to the process, I wouldn´t get my hopes up too much, since I think the CPS, the law, the judges, they are all on the same side, all part of the same crew.
If you choose to subscribe to the idea, that this whole CPS problem is systemic, then there is also not much help to be expected from the courts.
But sure, those cameras would help to actually film real procedures and behaviour of CPS personel, and if seen by thousands of people on Youtube, Twitter, whatever, it could cause a public outcry and become more disruptive to the process.

yes likedeeler! i was sayin this a few weeks ago.. that CPS should have cameras as mandatory requirement! the UK police do it now as well as bailiffs...

This is quite a superb list and a must for families with Minors. They all need to get one, you would be amazed to see how many caseworkers let their guard down thinking no one is watching!.

Although a tiny few state do not accept recording as an acceptable evidence in CPS cases but many state does!. So you can decide to let them know there is a camera in there, that way caseworkers would be mindful not to overstep boundaries, or you can keep it secret and catch them in their unprofessional acts!. Sound recorders are also good options.
Thank you @eco-alex for this post!

Foster care is prison indeed!
At least in most cases!
It’s crZy to me so many don’t get this
Or rather don’t take the 6 seconds to research it

agree with you . I thank you for this explanation. I will watch your next publications. He continued @eco-alex

Thanks for share this special which is helping that how can protect our family special kids .
Thank you so much

your post is nice i like it, i will wait for the continuation period thanks

Yes, it is a good solution since we need to leave our family back home for sometime.

Thanks and regard @eco-alex
@el-nailul

Awesome suggestions and the products look fantastic. A must for anyone dealing with the Social services. Great work!

This is a great idea, because sometimes CPS pay a visit unexpectedly and a person does not have time to turn on a voice recorder or camera. If the house has such a hidden camera, people will have evidence of illegal actions by the CPS
