Our Family Bedroom

in #family8 years ago (edited)

I've wrote about our family bedroom sharing before, but I wanted to express my new ideas on the subject and the update to our growing family (in both sheer number of people and in the age of the little ones). We now have Gwendolyn who is 4, Nixon who is 3, and the newest addition, Griffin - 2 months.

For the last year we've all shared one big bedroom. There are 3 beds in the bedroom, Gwen and Nix both have their own, then Juliette, Griffin and I all share the king. Up until recently the king mattress just sat on the ground with no frame, but now we have an official "bed".

Pillow Talk with Kids is the Best

We love it, from a social point of view, it's great to be there with the kids and talk to them as we fall asleep. Juliette and I chat when going to bed so why not everyone else? And they have SO many questions and things they want to talk about before going to bed. So we just try to start bedtime as early as possible and plan into it pillow talk time!

Security

That's one aspect that's really nice, the other is the security. Everyone is right there, there's no other rooms that my family is split up between. We have a security system, but you never know how someone could enter and such, and I don't like having my little princess girly in another room where I can't keep an eye on her all the time.

Bumps In The Middle of the Night

The other thing is them waking up at night. Most parents obviously have an open room policy where the kids can come in the middle of the night and wake up mom and dad if they have a bad dream. (unless they're really young and vulnerable, then they put them behind bars in a crib so they can't escape and just scream and cry all night...that makes sense - but that's a topic for another day) Gwen had a bad dream the other night though and it was really nice that she was able to wake up, walk 5 feet over to my side of the bed, and get me. And had she started crying earlier than that, I'd have been able to wake up and be at her side to comfort her even sooner.

We have always been a bed sharing family! Now we live in a tiny home and it just makes so much sense to have a king bed to share. We also have a fold out RV futon and 2 hammocks, so there are choices. :) i woukdnt have it any other way.
