#explore1918, De Javasche Bank at Banda Aceh

This building was formerly called De Javasche Bank. It now becomes the head office of Bank Indonesia branch of Aceh. Located on Jalan Cut Meutia number 15, this building directly opposite the Aceh River which divides the city of Banda Aceh. This building was built on December 2, 1918 by the Government of the Dutch East Indies, on the results of the design of the leading architects of the Dutch East Indies, N.V. Architecten-Ingenieurs Bureau Hulswit en Fermont te Weltevreden en Ed.

When the tsunami hit Aceh in December 2004, the building was not damaged. While the building around it, completely destroyed.

This building is one of the buildings that remain standing majestic. While other Dutch heritage buildings have been torn down or modernized.

I am with @marxause ​​today a walk to the city and make a simple sketch to enter a contest about #explore1918 by @sndbox.

I made this sketch using watercolor on paper. I want to document this historical relic with a manual image instead of using a photo.

Thanks to @phillyhistory, @sndbox who has made a contest about the history of this. With this contest, I can reopen a history book about many things around me. For example, the building I made the sketch.

May this building remain in our city as a memento marking the beginning of the beautiful 20th century.

Gedung ini dulunya bernama De Javasche Bank. Sekarang menjadi kantor pusat Bank Indonesia cabang Aceh. Berada di jalan Cut Meutia nomor 15, gedung ini lansung berhadapan dengan Sungai Aceh yang membelah kota Banda Aceh. Gedung ini dibangun pada 2 Desember 1918 oleh Pemerintah Hindia Belanda, atas hasil rancangan biro arsitek terkemuka di Hindia Belanda, N.V. Architecten-Ingenieurs Bureau Hulswit en Fermont te Weltevreden en Ed.

Ketika tsunami menghantam Aceh pada Desember 2004 lalu, gedung ini tidak rusak. Sementara gedung di sekitarnya, hancur total.

Gedung ini merupakan salah satu gedung yang tetap berdiri megah. Sementara gedung peninggalan Belanda yang lain sudah diruntuhkan atau dimodernisasi.

Saya bersama @marxause hari ini jalan-jalan ke kota dan membuat sketsa sederhana untuk mengikuti kontes yang tentang #explore1918 oleh @sndbox.

Saya membuat sketsa ini menggunakan cat air di atas kertas. Saya ingin mendokumentasikan peninggalan sejarah ini dengan gambar manual dan bukan menggunakan foto.

Terimakasih untuk @phillyhistory, @sndbox yang telah membuat kontes tentang sejarah ini. Dengan kontes ini, saya bisa membuka kembali buku sejarah tentang banyak hal di sekitar saya. Contohnya, gedung yang saya buat sketsa itu.
