At the Exhibition in Deoksu-Gung Palace, A Woman Painter.

in #exhibition5 years ago (edited)

The reason why me and my colleagues met in front of the gate was for looking around the exhibitions for the artists who broke the brushes in the their best time.
Deoksu-gung palace was tragic place of Chosun dynasty. In this palace, Chosun dynasty lost the sovereignty by Japan.
Now this palace became the exhibition for the paintings.

The first one I came across was the woman painter Jung chan young.
It was very rare in Korea for woman to be a painter.
The painter was believed as the masculine job at that time.
In my guess, the woman professional painter seemed not common even in Western world.

She was a talented painter, so she was prized as the best of the best painter in Korea.

Especially she was so special concerning the birds.

But suddenly she threw the brush after her son’s death.
Her little son was dead by the some disease, and she never had overcame the sorrow.

She was also the victim of Korean War, her husband went to North Korea.
It seemed that he was pro communist.

He was a botanist. So she drew plants for her husband.

After her husband’s exile, her family must be very difficult.
She was a tragic victim of Korean contemporary history.

@slowwalker,
I don't know what has happened, some photography are not displaying to me :/ But I could see the artwork of the peacock and unfinished artwork as well! Moreover, the plant that she draw to remind her husband as well! Those are pretty great and feel live versions of them! How incredible talent she got and due to the pain of her son's die, we all unfortunate not to see more wonderful artworks that could be alive today by her!
Thanks for sharing this experience and the story behind them as well!

Cheers~

I liked the peacock's paintings. It's really beautiful..my friend @slowwalker

@slowwalker, Unfortunately some of captures can't open from my side. But amazing to listen Jung chan young's painting skills. Current society have more women painters. But old society only seemed men for painting field. However she was a proud Korean woman I believe. Especially she painted more birds creativity.

Wonderful painting from her sir @slowwalker, but at the end so emotional sad story :(.

한국의 여성화가네요. 그림 멋집니다.
이름도 기억해둬야겠어요.
정찬영.
자칫하면 여류작가인지 모르고 지나칠 수도 있을테니까요.^^

I like that portrait of the woman-painter, she looks so concentrated in her work. I can imagine that in old times the mentality was different and it was not common for women to do Art.

It is horrible to hear that such loss of her son made her stop doing an Art. That might have been real impact in her soul. The works are beautiful, a lot of details and colors.

Its a wonderful exhibition i seen ever.
I always read over your blog and enjoy with this vlog..thanks
