What events do we have on August?
Mark your calender! August is this year’s best month to look up 2 impressive cosmic events will take place in mid-August.
First, is one of the most spectacular meteor showers of the year: The Perseid meteor shower.
The best time to watch is early morning on Aug. 12 and 13. You can see up to 50 meteors an hour.
For optimal viewing:
1. Find a safe place far from city lights with dark skies
2. Look toward the constellation Perseus

Then, on Aug. 21, Americans are in for a rare experience. A total solar eclipse will move across the US.
The eclipse will start on the west coast in Salem, OR at 9:05 a.m. PDT.
It will reach Jefferson City, MO by 11:46 a.m. CDT. The last major stop is Charleston SC at 1:16 p.m. EDT.
An event like this hasn’t happened in the US for 99 years. One of the best way to watch is with protective, eclipse glasses.
