RE: Critique of Critique
Freedom is potential. The Grandmaster is potentially freer than the amateur. The amateur cannot make the best plays, the Grandmaster can. I don't think anyone in their right mind makes the worst move, even the amateur makes the best move for him, and he also becomes a less sophisticated kind of robot. But he does not have the ability of the Grandmaster to make the best objective and non-subjective play. As they say, "knowledge is power," and power provides more freedom than disability.
Please explain.
Do you believe "potential" = "number of options"?
Yes.
How does the Grandmaster have more options than the novice?
He knows how to play better, has better techniques, knows better and more plays.
As for babies, they are born with a very limited degree of freedom, they can cry or laugh, and don't much more than that, but they also have free will. Not to mention, as you say, that they are in a position similar to that of slaves, because they lack age and experience.
Have you ever cared for a truly raging screaming baby for hours? ;-)
And also a baby is carried around on arms, pushed comfortably in a little wagon through the streets, cozy and warm inside its nest, needs only two sounds of having its caretakers trying all sorts of things to make it comfortable again. ... No slave has so much luxury. :D
lol.. No, but that is because you make yourself his servant so that the baby is freer; have more options.
The Grandmaster has KNOWLEDGE of more techniques and strategies, but that doesn't translate into MORE options, it actually translates into FEWER (subjectively better) options.
How does a newborn infant have "freewill"? What kind of decisions does a newborn infant make?
giving here the baby answers :D
that a baby has free will you will notice once you tried all sorts of things to soothe it. The baby has it all: pampered, well fed, kissed, cuddled, giving it space, but still the baby decides it doesn't want to stop screaming. Babies do have different behaviors, some can scream you into insanity. :D
But do you think they "choose" (consciously decide) to scream (or not scream)?
Or do you think they are simply reacting instinctively (impulsively)?
I don't know and cannot give a certain answer. But make this an experience of yours, if you are brave enough :) LOL.
Every action is a decision. The Grandmaster has more knowledge and therefore knows more options than the amateur, thus being more free.
The Grandmaster only has one best move (maybe two in rare cases).
They are a "best move" robot.
Their vast knowledge doesn't create more options, it creates fewer options.
How many moves does the Grandmaster have to choose from (1 and in rare cases perhaps 2)?
How many moves does the novice have to choose from (hundreds of legal moves and thousands of illegal moves)?
Which of the two has more choices (options)?
Which one is more FREE?
The ultimate novice is the newborn infant.
But is a newborn infant truly FREE?
They are instinctively motivated by (slaves of) avoiding pain, discomfort and hunger.
They are instinctively motivated by (slaves of) seeking joy, comfort and peace.
The core human motivation schema (PRIMARY AXIOMS):
(1) PROTECT YOURSELF
(2) PROTECT YOUR FAMILY
(3) PROTECT YOUR TERRITORY
The BRAINWASHERS try to subvert this natural human motivation schema (AXIOMS) by reshuffling them:
The PATRIOT
(1) PROTECT YOUR TERRITORY (COUNTRY)
(2) PROTECT YOUR FAMILY (FELLOW SOLDIERS/OFFICIALS)
(3) PROTECT YOURSELF (SACRIFICE YOURSELF FOR TERRITORY OR FAMILY, HERO FALLACY)
The MOBSTER
(1) PROTECT YOUR FAMILY (OMERTA)
(2) PROTECT YOURSELF (SACRIFICE YOURSELF FOR FAMILY)
(3) PROTECT YOUR TERRITORY (TERRITORY IS FUNGIBLE BUT STILL CRITICAL)
