The Epic Treasure Hunt of 2017-2020
Imagine Ethereum plus No Man's Sky with real bounty prizes.
Inspired by the VR treasure-hunt in Ready Player One, designing Ethereum blockchain-powered treasure-hunts for the No Man's Sky's gaming community may bring in significant mainstream attention and adoption of cryptocurrencies. Owners of treasures (crypto-bounty) may design interesting backstories and challenges for entertaining contents, promoting participation of players.
Let's say a bunch of organizers come up with a pooled bounty for an epic treasure hunt that takes place in the procedural universe of No Man's Sky, such an event will showcase the blockchain's role and reliability for mediating competitive games. And such understanding on the workings of the blockchain will spill forth into more real world applications. The trail of the wild hunt and pay-offs for such an adventure can be codified into a smart contract, assuming that interfacing with No Man's Sky isn't a problem.
Players, commentators, and twitch-streamers - that participate in the hunt will generate plenty of buzz and content for their own channels. And imagine the amounts of mutiny and backstabbing arising out of coordinated treasure-hunting pirates! Good fun and a great boon to the entire ecosystem.
Most importantly, players can choose to be private and maintain some level of anonymity and still participate in the treasure-hunt. Similar to the identity system in Ready Player One's OASIS. It is a feature enabled by the Ethereum blockchain.
And why No Man's Sky?
No Man's Sky - an open-universe game based on the art of proceduralism. It will be released for the PC and Playstation 4. Let me tell you why I'm excited about this.
It features:-
a) 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 life-sized planets and spaces in between to explore.
b) New lifeforms, ancient artifacts, mysteries waiting to be discovered.
c) Seamlessly travel anywhere in the universe with zero loading screens.
d) Proceduralism fine-tuned for fun, thrilling, and meaningful gameplay.
e) Primed for Survival-Adventure VR gaming.
f) A moddable NMS will be mindblowing.
A real world treasure-hunt in No Man's Sky on the Ethereum blockchain would be pretty epic if you ask me. If there are any similar ideas being executed, please inform me - I would like to check them out and contribute.

probably this doesn't have to be done in NMS
there are some alternatives, it is fairly easy to make a treasure hunt in the real world
(would have to be based on smarts as in ready player one)
another option would be to create something similar to NMS, but that is a much harder
way to make a treasure hunt.
