Steemit – It’s about the content – quality and patience.

in #esteem7 years ago (edited)

OK maybe I’m not in a position to post a motivational post about Steemit yet. I’m a self confessed minnow, you can see that by my reputation level and if any dolphins or whales want to cut me down then I’ll listen and heed the advice.

I have previously posted some content on Steemit that have taken me several hours to prepare and then barely anyone looked, no upvotes, no comments. I initially got disheartened by this, who wouldn’t? If you’re reading this then it’s probably happened to you too.

So what next? Keep creating good content and you will gain followers (I am) and keep the content informative and original (I think I am), and then more followers will eventually notice and things WILL start happening.

I will point out a few things that I have noticed and changing what you do may make a difference.

People like stories. They don’t have to be fiction, just something that happened to you. Take some pictures, add some text, describe what happened and maybe add a little humour.

If you want to talk about a news event don’t just reiterate this information. Add your opinion, why in your opinion this has happened and what may happen as a consequence? Others may not share your opinion but it will surely open up a debate.

If you like the content, upvote, UPVOTE. Did I mention UPVOTE!

Quality content is something that looks like this:

True this is a rather verbose response and you don't need to pages of text to show your point of view like this blogger has. However it opens up a debate on a given topic and adds value. This person has a reputation of (25) is obviously a fast learner. A response of this quality deserves an Upvote.

Poor Quality content is something like this:

another example:

I also see 'That was an interesting post' only too often.
You wont get anywhere doing this. In fact you may invoke the wrath of the original poster.

Don't do it!

If someone comments on your article with good content, upvote the comment and then respond. They may respond back and upvote you again. Upvotes count, all of them.

If someone responds to your comment with good content, but you have nothing else to add. UPVOTE it. Don't just do nothing.

I can’t stress this enough. It costs you a little of your voting power, it doesn’t cost you Steem, SteemPower or SteedDollars. We all need to feel some appreciation and your voting power constantly regenerates.

People will remember this; they will reciprocate.

Follow people that have the same interests as you. I for one love:

Magic the Gathering
Music especially progressive,
CryptoCurrencies
Airdrops
FTSE Shares Investing
PS4 Gaming
Eating Out
Travelling.

It’s all in my profile. I know things about these subjects so I will create content about them.

If you know lots about something then tell us! I am learning about things that I have a little knowledge about because the author that creates good content will teach me things. Be that teacher too.

I wish you all the best, and don’t forget upvote if you feel this or other content deserves it.

Hello, sorry for my bad English, I translated your article, was shared by a friend of mine ... I find it very interesting for people like me and have everything to learn ... The thing I noticed is that there there are many automatic votes, which I personally do not like ... read 150 votes and 10 people who have read the article. what do you think about it? Pleasure Gianni from Italy.

Hi @bisec, I noticed after posting an article I got an additional 6 followers and yet nobody had even read it. They look like bots to me, here's one of them.

I also have lots to learn and still am every day, enjoy!

That was an interesting post.

...just kidding :). It was though, some good points made. I’m in a transitional period from quick successive posts to as you say, spending a some time carefully crafting what is on my mind. I say transitional phase as I still have a batch of Twitter blog like posts on mt to do list. I don’t see the point in waiting the idea - I maybe even turn them into something a little bigger.

There’s no wrong or right so this isn’t meant to be the start of a dabate or a critisism but another commenter mentioned frequency of posts. I’m not sure this is at all important IF you read outside of you feed. I’m rather more keen on looking for quality nuggets from new people to prompt me to follow them. It’s a little like panning from gold. Coming back and panning through chunks of content to find the nugget.

Of course there are a few peeps I follow and reply to daily but again this is mostly about quality and not frequency. I tend to not unfollow people if they don’t keep me interested.

I say this as somebody who is more interested in learning new stuff and finding interesting people over seeking any form of revenue steem. (See what I did there)

These are just things I've picked up during my very short stay here. They may well have been said before by other Steemer's. Hopefully some of these people types I'm referring to may read this and learn from it.

Look forward to reading your incoming material. I too am looking for good content preferably around my interests.

I am a woman with few words. My top paid posts here are all screenshots haha 😂

I'm only good in cashing out 😂😂😂

I have one little point of criticism, it's also quantity is as important as quality. With quantity, I don't mean that you have to write 4 posts per day, just that you have to post regularly enough to keep your followers interested.

I don't think that you can expect to make it here on Steemit if you just post once a week. Even if you're writing excellent articles.

I do agree with the general thought behind this post. It's definitely better to post 1 great article every day or every 2 days, than to post 4 low-effort posts per day.

Point taken @daan and I completely agree. In fact I have changed the subject line to concur with what you are thinking.

I for one do intend to do at least 1 article a day, during the week work somewhat interferes though.

There are a lot of good tips in this your post, great! I think the title that you chose is a perfect summery of the best approach here: quality and patience. In these last days I'm thinking about how many people "burn" themselves just because they don't have patience writing spam comments, saving their voting power just for themselves and posting just a simple immage writing "follow me". Thinking about my experience here I can say that be patience, have fun and share the love (it means use the voting power to upvote the contents I like, not just mine ^_^) it's really the best way to stay in this community ;)

@silviabeneforti, I took some of these example types, and especially the 'wrath' comment from some of your retorts. I can see why you get more than a little annoyed with the behaviour of some of the respondents and rightly so too!

Still learning and learning how to write, its quite a difference from what I have been doing in the past.
