In 1901, a school teacher who was aged 63 yrs was the first survivor. She went over the Niagara Falls with her barrel as part of her publicity stunt.

3 days before, to test the strength of the barrel, she had sent her cat on horse shoe falls 😊😊

There are many such stories of people falling from Niagara and survived.
Few did intentionally and Few for popularity.
And for grabbing the attention, even Cats used in one such instance where the Cat was locked up in a barrel and let fall from the heights, Cat survived.
