Do not forget my grandfather is a storyteller and that he tells wonderful stories. He was the son of a warrior so he mostly told stories that involved war but this is one of the exceptions anyway. This is not a war story and I think I can recall the title of the story...."The Magic Pen." Sit back, and enjoy the story....

In an undisclosed town, there lived a rich man and woman who were really hardworking and it was thanks to that they became rich. They suffered a great deal before they could make it to the top and so they promised never to let any of their children suffer as they did.

Now, they decided it was time to raise children as they now have the financial abilities to fully support any child they give birth to. This is really a good decision, although we don't have to be rich before we have children, we should at least be able to give them a good life.

sometime around a year and a half after their decision, they were blessed with a cute baby boy, very handsome and chubby like myself.... lol. It was their first child, they pampered him, gave him all he wanted and they tried to make him the happiest he could be.

Of course, the boy was growing like every other well-fed child would grow. He now had his own room equipped with the modern games available in the country. His parents kept doing their best for him, he was happy about it, and he loved them...

After several years, the parents were still not able to give him a baby brother or sister due to the complications she had during his birth. Oops! I forgot to tell you their son's name, he is Ade. Ade wasn't complaining about it, he had all the care and attention he wanted.

Ade's parents decided to stop worrying about it, face Ade and make sure he ends up being more successful than they are. Meanwhile, Ade was getting all he wanted, the attention, the affection, the enjoyment and all and he was being too relaxed to focus on his studies. His results were not really exceptional before, they were just on the average and now, his results were beginning to drop.

This was another point of concern for Ade's parents. They weren't sure Ade might be able to go on and make them proud after their demise at the end of the day. They needed to be sure everything would go on well after on. Although Ade was still a secondary school student, SS 3 precisely, his parents were thinking long term. Now, his parents decided to call him and make a deal with him.

What was the deal?

In his father's voice, " Ade, we are aware your performance has dropped in school and you know it is your final year in high school so, you need to get an excellent result to secure admission into a very good college. We know it's not easy but that's what we want from you, we know you can do it. If you are able to have at least 6 of 9 A's in your coming general examinations, we'll grant you your long time wish." Okay dad, I'll try...

Ade thought for days on what to do to make this possible. He has always wanted a bicycle but his parents always refused whenever he mentioned it. He wanted one desperately but he wouldn't want to do the needful... Ade was coming from school one day still thinking of what could be done when he saw a bookstore open, he went in and asked to see the person in charge. He then asked if he could get a magic pen, his parents promised him a bicycle if he passed his coming exams excellently. The man smiled and said he had just one left and he was already thinking of throwing it away a long time ago because he had no need for it anymore.

Ade thanked the man because the man refused payment but instead gave him a single warning... "This magic pen will only work if you read four hours a day". Ade started studying, making sure he studies for at least 4 hours daily. His parents were surprised he's really changed, from the Ade that played just games to the one that studies his books.

Three months down the line, Ade had his exams and his result came out a few months after it. Fortunately, he got more than his 6 A's, he got 7. On checking the result, the first place he went was to the bookstore to thank the man that gave him the pen but now, the man explained to him that the pen was just a regular pen like the others, he just took a random pen from his locker that day. So, it was your efforts that made you pass excellently not the pen.

My grandfather told me the morals that day but I don't think I remember...lol

Thanks for coming!!

That little boy,
