Scientists Reveal Earthquake Light Phenomenon

Earthquake light is one of the rare phenomea that glows visible in the sky before or during the occurrence of seismic activity or volcanic eruptions that are likely to occur in cracked areas.

Earthquake lights are also often referred to as visible soil light in a variety of forms, one of which is a glowing ball that flies in space.

For years scientists thought that earthquake lights did not exist at all.
this phenomenon often appears in the sky during an earthquake even before the earthquake, its color sometimes looks white or bluish, sometimes like the aurora above the earthquake area, where all this takes place in seconds to minutes (never long).



Scientists still do not know exactly how and why the mysterious light appears, one theory states that earthquake light comes from the friction created by tectonic movements containing quartz.

While other opinion states that the light comes from ionosphere field disturbance or magnetic field.
And not all theories are acceptable, in other words that the light of the earthquake is still a mystery.
But now a team of scientists led by Dr Theriault has solved the mystery.

The team of scientists led by Dr Theriaults at this time has successfully identified and studied 65 cases of the emergence of earthquake light phenomena resulting from data collected since 1600 in the Americas and Europe.

The analysis report is published early in 2014 in the journal Seismological Research Letter, where they say that 85 percent of 65 cases occur in cracked areas and 97 percent occur in areas adjacent to cracks or subvertical errors.

Various evidences were developed including eyewitness and camera reports during an earthquake in Pisco, Peru in 2007.

Seismic records obtained mention the time and location that illuminate some of the night sky, so that the rays are identified as earthquakes that coincide with wave propagation seismic.

The results they obtained were unexpected, scientists still suspect and have not been able to explain the phenomenon of earthquake-related light cracks in the environment.

Other error factors (such as interplate) may also appear but range from 5 percent of seismic activity and occur at an angle of 30 to 35 degrees (eg, subduction zones).

Of the 65 cases of earthquake light events are associated with subduction zones, and scientists assume that this occurs because there are unknown subvertical errors.
