The Bridge - illuminated
This is the Erasmus Bridge - it is name after the humanist Desiderius Erasmus. A nick-name for the bridge is The Swan. The bridge connects the north and south side of the city of Rotterdam and spans the New Maas River. The suspension bridge has one pilon standing impressively 139 metres high with 40 cables protruding from it. It is the tallest bridge in the Netherlands. It is also a drawbridge allowing ships to pass underneath.
Although built in 1996, the Erasmus Bridge has certainly become the main landmark of Rotterdam. It is not only used by cars but also trams, cyclist and pedestrians. You might have seen it in the film from Jacky Chan's "Who am I " or as a backdrop for a performance of world famous DJ Tiesto.
As you can see from these photos - the Erasmus bridge is quite imposing. It reminds me of a beautiful harp. Whether you visit during the day or night - this modern architectural beauty is very impressive against the skyline of Rotterdam.

What a beautiful scenery, I never knew of such bridge though I remembered the Jackie Chan film.
