The Eurasian landmass is the reason for both your monsoons in the summer and the cool northerly winds in the winter. When it heats up in the summer, it causes the air rise and the replacement comes from the south. In the winter, the center of it becomes frigid and that causes the air to sink. Some of the cooler, northerly air gets pushed into your neck of the woods.
