Last weekend we did a lot of work in the garden and around the house. I still have a long list of repairs that are needed around the house and fence.

The landscape by the river is changing according to new season. My neighbours’ tomato gardens are doing quite well and the vegetable patches are getting bigger. I hope this year they will fetch much better price than last year. Cheap imported vegetables from Laos and China have made life quite difficult for farmers and local people here.

I have bought about ten different kinds of seeds for my gardener. Last season she made quite a bit of money from selling the produce to the local market. Her lemon grass field is growing greener, the previous flood destroyed her lemon grass field. This time she is planting both tomatoes and lemon grass, some long beans and cabbages.

My neighbour’s vegetable patch has protective sun screen and insect screen this year. There are going to be lots of long beans soon. So I am looking forward to all these fresh and organic vegetables this winter.

อาทิตย์ที่แล้วเราได้ทำงานหลายอย่างในสวน และรอบบ้าน แต่ก็ยังมีรายการยาวหลายรายการที่ต้องทำ เกี่ยวกับการซ่อมแซมบ้านและรั้ว และการทำร่องสำหรับระบายน้ำฝน เราได้เรียนรู้จากการสังเกตสภาพแวดล้อมในฤดูกาลที่ผ่านมา ภาพวิวที่นี่ก็เปลี่ยนไปตามฤดูการเพาะปลูก ช่วงนี้ชาวบ้านจะไถที่ให้พร้อมสำหรับการปลูกพืชฤดูหนาว แถวบ้านมีคนปลูกกะหล่ำปลีและข้าวโพดกันมาก ส่วนแถวเพื่อนบ้านนี่พากันปลูกมะเขือเทศ

เราซื้อเมล็ดพันธ์ผักมากกว่าสิบอย่างให้คนสวน ก่อนน้ำท่วมเขาขายมะเขือพวงได้เงินมากมายเพราะคนกินติดใจ ราคาค่อนข้างดีเพราะไม่มีคนอื่นปลูก ปีนี้คิดว่าคงปลูกถั่วฝักยาวและถั่วแขก ส่วนแปลงต้นตะไคร้ก็กำลังเริ่มงาม เสียดายที่นํ้าท่วมไปก่อนหน้านี้ ทำให้ขายรายได้ไปก้อนหนึ่ง ตอนนี้ก็เลยปลูกผักทุกอย่างที่มีเมล็ด เอาไว้กินและไว้ขายบางส่วน มะเขือเทศกำลังงาม เราหวังว่าราคาปีนี้คงดีกว่าปีก่อน การนำเข้าผักจากจีนและลาวทำให้ชาวบ้านขาดรายได้ไปมากเพราะขายขาดทุน โชคดีที่ดินที่นี่ดีมาก เราไม่จำเป็นต้องใส่ปุ๋ยมาก และเราให้ทุกคนแถวนี้ใช้ปุ๋ยชีวะภาพอย่างดี เราจะได้มีผักสดปลอดสารเคมีกินในช่วงหน้าหนาวนี้ด้วย
