Friday Market: cheap and good evening market near Sathorn Pier, ตลาดตอนเย็นที่ถูกและดีใกล้ท่านํ้าสาทร
This is my entry for #marketfriday hosted by the lovely and artistic @dswigle. As it has been rainy like crazy in Bangkok, life and things seem to slow down. The traffic jam on rainy days is just impossible. So, as soon as the sun is out later in the afternoon, I have to rush out for my evening walk at Bangrak Area on New Road, which is a few minutes walk from Sathorn Pier; where we could get free boat rides to IconSiam and AsiaTique.
For budget travelers, this Bangrak evening market with the food center and the Robinson shopping mall at the corner are the best place to come for your lunch and dinner. Just get into the sky-train to Sathorn Station and turn left at the main road. You’ll see Robinson within 100 meters, but you will see the evening market on your right lane just before you reach Robinson.
You will see this vegetable stall sticking out like a sore thumb at the corner of the small lane. This lane is full of food stalls, street food stalls, seafood grills and small restaurants at very reasonable prizes. That’s why it is very popular with local people.
Grab a small basket and choose your vegetables. The prices here are at least 50% cheaper than those in the supermarket.
The choices are incredible! It is wonderful to have vendors bringing in fresh vegetables into the heart of Bangkok.
The real surprise for me is the fresh fish stall which makes it possible for middle income people to be able to buy fresh fish and seafood at much cheaper prices.
Not very far from Sathorn Pier is the old fish market where some shops still sail in from the south to deliver their catch to their regular buyers. That’s why I always go to my usual food stall for fresh seafood at incredibly cheap prices.
Now for those who haven’t tried our local thai style roti, you evidently don’t know what you are missing! This is much lighter than the Indian roti which you have with mutton or fish curry! This is a serious snack or fast food on the go! You could eat this while you are walking around. Some people like it as sweet so they’ll have a banana as toppings with optional condensed milk and sugar, very sweet! Or you could have some eggs on top of the roti. The easiest way to eat this is to have the roti rolled up in special wrapping paper to absorb the excess oil and butter. You just tear the wrapping paper a bit at a time so you could take a bite, just like eating a banana, but the peeling is done sideway in a circle.
There are many choices of quick snacks such as charcoal grilled stick-food, Thai crepes, Kanom-Tokyo and deep fried sweet potatoes balls!
Isaan or north-eastern Thai food.
How about a Thai massage after a day’s walk!?
More coffee shops and restaurants at the end of the lane.
One of the most popular food stall for seafoods and Korean style barbecue.
I do hope that participants to Steem Fest 4 in Bangkok would be passing through this market on their way to hop on the free boat ride to either IconSiam or AsiaTique. There are two cheap hostels for backpackers in this lane too. If there is a request, I would enquire about the prices and check out the conditions of the rooms.
There is a very good Japanese ice-cream place in Robinson mall next door to the market. This is a very good place to get cheap T-shirts, jeans and sandals! You could charge your mobile phones free on the fourth floor while having a cold drink or a quick lunch.
Wishing you peace, good health and prosperity.
Cheers.

Well! Whenever you are here in Bangkok I will treat you to two pieces of roti, one with eggs and the other With banana!
Those free boat rides are offered by the two competing shopping complexes by the river: IconSiam and AsiaTique! You’ll have to see both places in one day!

Oh, that's right, it's the monsoon season in Thailand! Everything should slow down because when the water comes, it comes rapidly and furiously. I know some people that won't even drive there when it's raining they would rather walk. How nice that they give you free boat rides to Icon Siam and the Asiatique! That is what@Hangin did his post on this week - AsiaTique!
You can actually almost tell the markets that offer a good price because their merchandise isn't laid out as carefully as the other place. The food stalls are sticking out all over the place in things are not put in little bin sunny in order they but you know that when you were on a budget or you live there and can figure out over time which of the best places I can honestly say then I would probably go there. Everything looks clean and delicious so not sure it would matter!
The fresh fish storms are very nice looking and I'm glad that they are meet available for cheaper prices. I've actually never had a roti, but now I feel like I've missed out and I think that I must make my way to Thailand so that I can have one. The one with a banana on top sounds interesting. Have You Ever Had It That Way? Well, I hate to tell you but anything on a stick is good with me. Your post was an amazing set of delicious pictures one after 1 after 1 after 1 the fish is cooked and all the different places to eat. It was a wonderful post and I am so glad that you presented to us. I also like the shop on the motorcycles in the entire place because I know that they're used more than anything but it certainly is funny-looking as an American. Thank you so much for taking part in Market Friday It is so much appreciated!
#MarketFriday loves you!

Hahaha! The cheap roti would become too expensive because of your plane ticket!! I have seen tourists eating their roti with fingers all sticky and dripping with the toppings! I used to eat roti everyday at school, now I go for it once in a while! It’s very rich in calories! Hahaha.
This kind of market is a bit of a riot as it isn’t neat. But you get what you can see and choose. I prefer to see my food being cooked so I could change the item if I don’t feel like it! More flexibility!
This local market is small and not very touristy.
Hope you’ll be able to visit Thailand one day!
Me too!!! Small and not touristy is what I like!!! I don't mind it not being neat as long as it's clean!! It sounds rich in calories.
Tourists are living it up while on vacation. Calories don't count if you are not home. ;)
Thank you again and I ma diligently working on my post! :)
